Battleship
Battle-Stations Armed 3.0/5

NASA finds a planet very much like the earth and decides to build a turbo charged radio beacon to try and send out a signal to them. In the very beginning we hear one of the nerds making a snide comment about how this is obviously not going to be good and rest assured, hes correct. Soon after the project is launched control sees some unidentifiable objects that breach the atmosphere and crash into the sea.
Not surprisingly, they crash into the pacific, precisely where the United States Naval Forces and undergoing training exercise in collaboration with Japan. A lot of firepower and sunken destroyers later, the heroes of the sea manage to save Planet Earth.

Now Im a guns and adrenalin kind of a gal, not to mention a total transformer geek, so I was sold on the movie. The Transformers influence is pretty strong throughout, especially in the sound effects. But Battleship made it a little more genuine. I mean, the machines were kickass, but the aliens behind the machines were pretty darn awesome! There was none of those little green people with weird Voldemort type noses. In fact the crazy black dude and the aliens looked like brothers (youll know what I mean when you watch the movie)! And I liked that fact I mean, if evolution is the theory, and this planet is supposed to be very similar to earth then why would the other guys look like walking corn-sticks?! So yeh, if someone came up to me and said that those extraterrestrial iron man rip offs are for real, I would probably believe them.

The bad part was that weird love story that was happening between The Admirals daughter and the Sailor Boy. I swear to god, if someone turned off the volume and I didnt know what they were saying to each other, I would think they were brother and sister! And the whole romantic part was forced anyway. Believe me, if the entire thing was edited out ever bit of the rest of the movie would still make sense. They ruined the beginning of the movie with that nonsense!

What they might have been better off doing is finding a better way to show how Sailor Boy landed up in the Navy in the first place. The brother (who is already in the Navy by the way) sees this guy getting tazed and decides to get him enrolled in the Navy! And if Sailor Boy here was such a rebel in the first place, how does he agree to it and then manage not just getting in but also staying there for so long! Im SO not buying that!

Also, Apparently, old rusted ships that have been turned into museums can be fired up again within seconds and be ready for battle what was UP with that?!

And the best part is, by the end of the movie it so happens that everybody who would be required to save the world is already present in the little island where the transmitters are. Which gets me to thinking isnt a government facility of that kind supposed to be OUT OF BOUNDS! but no.. thats where the partys at!

So in conclusion, there were a few parts that made me go OH COME ON! but for the rest of it I was drooling like a Saint Bernard does at the sight of a steak! The action scenes were killer! Especially the last old battleship vs. the badass alien scumbag watercraft! That is one badass scene!

If youre a Transformers fan, go watch the movie (seriously, its transformers of the sea). But if youre not into the whole fire, battle and dubstepping aliens, then you might as well save yourselves from going into the movie and then cribbing about it forever.

I, for one, am definitely getting this one for my collection!
