Teri Meri Kahaani
No kahaani at all 2.0/5

The main problem with Teri meri kahani is that it does not have a strong enough story with a central theme to tell (if you read a review where the first two words are main problem then you may as well stop reading there!). It is three different love stories set in three different time periods with the same lead hero and heroine. Thats it. Its not reincarnation or unrequited love or a murder most foul; nothing. It is mainly a good opportunity for the guy who designed the sets to show off his expertise in creating period places. Period.

So, first you have Shahid and Priyanka romancing in 1960s Mumbai. You get to see trams and a small Churchgate station and a steam engine. Impressive. Prachi Desai and Priyanka have bouffants for hairstyles and Shahid thinks everyone acted like Dev Anand wearing a bowler hat. Then suddenly the story shifts to 2012 UK and the young couple are all hip and trendy and conduct their romance over Facebook, Twitter and sms. And then when youve had enough of that the scene moves to a village in Punjab in 1912. Now we have Priyanka in phulkari work dupattas, Shahid in Pathani suits and everyone drinks lassi out of tall glasses. There are a few British soldiers to add to the scene.

And then the movie ends, but not before you are treated to umpteen mediocre songs each supposed to boast the flavour of that era. So you have the swinging 60s number (badly choreographed) then a breezy 2012 song(not bad) and then a folksy number (boring).

The romance in each segment never gets to set in. Kunal Kohli may have got Bombay to look authentic but this is the weakest story in the three. There is no passion or chemistry and the segment looks more like a flop comedy from the silent era than a sweet innocent romance, it has such few dialogues. The 2012 bit warms up proceedings a bit but is not enough to engage us. The only story that has some substance is the Punjab one. Shahid looks incredibly romantic and Priyanka also acts delicately to give this part of the movie its on only stab at love.

All in all, the three stories have nothing to mesh them together and the whole thing is episodic like a TV serial. Dont make this kahani your kahani for the weekend. Avoid.
