Nowadays there have been so many movies with debutants and its really good that B-Town is welcoming all with warmth. Teen They Bhai is produced by Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra in association with debutant director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. Its a story about three separated brothers, who are compelled to stay together due to their Grandfathers will. Now the question is will they be able to share few happy moments or the trio will end up on a bitter note?

Mrighdeep Singh did a smart job by casting fine actors but weak editing, poor script and worn-out humor did not create the magic, which the movie should have. Om Puris role of a loud Punjabi businessman absolutely suited him and undoubtedly he did give his best to whatever the scope was. Deepak Dubriyal as a fake dentist is fine and his desi love story with Ragini Khanna did add a sweet taste to the movie. Have to say, Ragini Khanna did a wonderful job; she was lively and bought a different feel to the movie. Shreyas Talpades role of a wannabe actor did get too overdramatic and lost its charm.

The movie lacked on the terms of consistency and weak humor. Film-makers tried really hard to make audience laugh but honestly it didnt pay off. They should realize that loud scenes, worn-out gags and over drama only adds to boredom. Do watch out for Yuvraj Singhs Father, who is also making his debut with this flick.

Footer: Nothing great to look out for except beautiful Kashmir, so let this movie be a pass!

Can you guess who's the only actor to have given 2 good films this year ? Chances are that most of you won't even know his name. That guy is DEEPAK DOBRIYAL, somebody who excels in giving earthy, witty and funny performances.

Om Puri is a veteran actor who is supposed to give excellent performances, and thus watching him play an arrogant and dominating elder brother was entertaining and to an extent something which the audience will expect in default. But Dobriyal plays the guy who gets mish mashed in between the Hitler Om Puri and obnoxious Shreyas Talpade. He is a simpleton who is constantly at the receiving end in life which reflects in simple nuances in the performance.

Coming back to the film, "Teen Thay Bhai" has been one of the best Bollywood flicks for me this year. I simply do not think that it requires a critical eye vilifying the somewhat stretched screenplay or a very simple, predictable storyline. Because the film made me laugh out really, really loud, and I really needed it today. Om Puri's angry outburst when he finds out what he's drinking, or Dobriyal's sulky retort when he applies the facial cream, or finally Talpade's last word about his grandpa's ashes. All of them helped me imitate a raucous, shrieking baboon :D.

The story revolves around 3 brothers who simply cannot stand each other, and one day that they must spend together in order to gain access to crores of land. The filming has been done in Gulmarg amidst heavy snowfall, a setting which has never been experimented much with except for shooting romantic songs. The acting has already been talked about a lot, but Ragini Khanna must be mentioned for showing spunk in a 5 minute performance. Even her younger 10 year old version who was there for all of a minute stole my heart.

The last time we saw 3 bickering men struggling for money was in Priyan's Hera Pheri. I agree it is not that good a film, but it surely has its heart in the right place.

PS - The title song is absolutely stupid, but I still couldnt stop humming it for quite some time. I liked the film so much. view less

It takes a brave man to make a film that defies convention. So whatever we say about the film henceforth, at least that battle has been comfortably won by 3 Thay Bhai.

It is a purely dialogue-driven film, belonging to the old school of thought where there's minimal manipulation. The characters take time to reveal. The music is always a mere accessory, never the star of the scene. Every joke has a meticulous build-up. The few, far between dramatic moments find a subtle origin somewhere.

Exactly the kind of film that is super hard to get right. It's the wise old man compared to hot-blooded razzmatazz, but like most wise old men, is slow and far from being perfect.

Chixie Gill(Om Puri), Happy Gill(Deepak Dobriyal) and Fancy Gill(Shreyas Talpade) are three bickering brothers with disjointed histories and disoriented lives. They are brought together by their grandfather's death(Yograj Singh), and his will. They must fulfill a set of bizarre conditions to land their claim on granddad's booty. Conditions that essentially involve facing adversity together, and discovering how important they are to each other in the end. Love makes an appearance in the form of Gurleen(Ragini Khanna), which is more of a subplot but done well enough.

For starters, the film is Punjabi at heart. A lot of jokes and dialogues will be lost on those who aren't familiar with the language. The performances are good , and Shreyas Talpade takes the cake. His character is one of those you laugh AT and not WITH, and not making a total ass of yourself is tricky there. Om Puri is his usual Punjabi old man self, while Ragini Khanna is refreshingly natural. It's an unfamiliar story set in an unfamiliar setting- snow filled mountains complete with old British style villas, fireplaces etc. In fact, there are times it feels more like a play than a movie. There are a few scenes which we don't see much- like them getting high on India's answer to hash brownies: hash-paranthas.

Those scenes are, however, in direct conflict with the ones not so well written, which actually end up being tedious to watch. Some jokes are too far-fetched, and some out rightly flat. Think of 'Khichdi' like jokes in a Punjabi setting and you get the idea.

It is at best an honest effort to tell an unconventional story peppered with humor. If you watch it, let it be for that effort.

Internal Bias: I love 'chameleon' Deepak Dobriyal and solemnly pledge to see any movie that has him in it.

After seeing the trailers of this movie I was looking forward to seeing it .The cast was rock solid with Om Puri, Deepak Dobriyal and Shreyas Talpade and the jokes seemed funny.

So it was we went, three friends, to be entertained and we were. For the first 5 minutes or so. After that it all descended into Laurel and Hardy kind of slapstick comedy with people being punched and kicked at random and situations so contrived that a formula film from the 70s would have had me gasping with surprise when the brothers reunite in the end because of a tattoo.

The story is about three very quarrelsome brothers who are forced to spend one day in a year together according to their grandfathers will, if they are to inherit his fortune. So the three meet at a remote house in the hills and then bash each other up mercilessly without much rhyme or reason. Obviously Dadaji thought that childhood traumas and resentments would be resolved by the three of them in a day simply by fighting it out.

The film is shot in a beautiful snowy landscape that is marred by extreme close ups of Om Puri's face or rather his nose. I dont know why that is needed when the director anyway has him barking out his dialogues unnecessarily. There is only one sense you can assault at a time if you want a person to sit through a movie. Shreyas Talpade should have taken his role more seriously and stop being Shreyas Talpade playing Fancy Singh playing Shreyas Talpade. Though he gets a lot of funny lines thanks to the queer English he speaks he hams it up so much that it is irritating. Deepak Dobriyal is the best of this trio. He slips into being Happy Singh whose chosen stress buster is ironing, effortlessly and you can see a guy who has been a loser all his life. The little love story between him and his childhood sweetheart is also quite well done.

The film has a few good touches- Om Puris Nike look alike cap that says Nice with the Nike logo, the Inspectors bag of torture instruments that says As seen on TV, the hash parathas, and a very funny end. But these few jokes are scattered over a large area and when you chance upon one you pounce on it like a beggar coming upon a 100 rupee note. But then what can you get with a 100 rupees these days?

There is a lot that is wrong with Teen The Bhai. The biggest mistake though, is that this comedy isn't even remotely funny.

Debutant director Mrighdeep's film is a weird concoction of sick PJs, a few brilliantly comic scenes, some unnecessary melodrama and loose ends that barely make any sense. The film meanders along in a spiral of mediocrity making for a staggeringly boring film.

Given the talent this film has in terms of acting, TTB could have been a laugh riot. Om Puri, Deepak Dobriyal and Shreyas Talpade play the three brothers endearingly. Each of their characters is sketched with love, and the actors play them with seasoned flair. Deepak Dobriyal as the middle brother is superb while Shreyas plays to the gallery and livens up the screen. But such moments are far and few between. Raagini especially is totally under utilized. A shame, since the few scenes she is in are the best in the film.

The film suffers from inconsistency. There is no coherent story line. Things happen out of the blue. The particular portion of a hippy like rave party in the snow is particularly out of place. Songs are seriously sad for a quirky story line like this. And most oddly, the film is paced unevenly. Things move fast sometimes, dreadfully drag at others, making the film seem longer than it actually is.

TTB is an opportunity wasted. With that amount of talent in hand, its almost a crime to go this wrong. Avoid it a all costs. view less

A constant question that keeps disturbing my mind is that when a film is a hit a chunk of the credit goes to the producer but when a film is a flop why does the blame lie at the doorstep of the director and not the producer? Thankfully even today the films hero is forced to shoulder the blame of a flop as much as he crows about a hit he may be a fleeting part of.

Having said that I have absolutely no doubts that irrespective of who grabs the credit 3 They Bhai is an undisputed laugh riot that is absolute Value For Money. Absolute credit goes to the lead cast of Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade & Deepak Dobriyal. While Om Puri is an absolute veteran when it comes to comedy and Shreyas too has more or less established himself the real surprise packet is actually Deepak Dobriyal. I for one would not blame you if you happen to wonder aloud..Deepak who?

He has actually given two remarkable hits in a row in a single year in Tanu Weds Manu and Teen They Bhai and people still don't know who exactly he is or where he has come from.But that hardly matters really considering he is delivering to satisfaction. Wasn't that the case with Om Puri himself who across the 70's gave one rocking performance after another but he started to get recognised only after Ardh Satya?

Coming back to Teen Thay Bhai it is a clean slapstick comedy that does not need double meaning dialogues, suggestive gestures or vulgar item babes to draw in the masses.It's the perfect comic timing and straight laced humour that has the audience rocking in the aisle in sheer delight. The three main artistes carry the film along without trying too hard really and that's what makes the film so absolutely enjoyable.

With typical Punjabi names like Happy Gill, Fancy Gill & Chiksi Gill the three brothers just cannot stand the sight of each other and thus prefer to lead independent lives but the death of their grandfather and his will forces them to come together under a common roof with his ashes. Even though they cannot stand each other they don't hate each other enough to let go of the inheretance to a trust. Each one of them has several unfulfilled dreams they see coming alive once they can lay their hands on all the money their grandpa has left behind.

The never ending night has a volley of twists and turns as each of them goes into flashbacks to their childhood and how each feels the other is responsible for the way their present life has shaped. Their are plenty of emotional showdowns and break downs between the 3 brothers but nothing can keep them apart now that they have a fortune to inherit.

After a real long time Rakesh Mehra who has played along with his name for better luck has finally landed a resonably decent hit. The only visible flaw with rather amusing fun film is that since the director is Punjabi and the film is set in the Northern Himalayas so the film was bound to have a Heavy Punjabi flavor.So far so good as it shall instantly connect with the North Indian audience and simply rock but what about the rest of India? The jokes and abuses that could have North Indians fall off their Manjhi in absolute delight could well go over the heads of the audience in other parts thus keeping it back from being a universal hit.

None the less having said that there is no denying that Teen Thay Bhai is an extremely enjoyable comedy that gives the audience sheer fun and does not leave them shortchanged as most big budget flops have been doing recently disguised as comedies that have fallen flat having been rejected outright by the audience.

Ragini Khanna being the only prominent female in this male dominant film sure manages to stand out and make her presence felt. After a real long time Om Puri is truly in his comic element and he simply rocks as the eldest of three brothers.His role has heavy shades of his classic role from Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.

First up, my heart-felt congratulations to the team which comprises
debutant director, writers and a fresh casting. Now having read some
bad critics' reviews and extremely favorable reviews from friends whose
judgement I trust, I finally decided to watch this film. And it was a
pleasant surprise.

Very rarely does a film which defies all the set formulae defined by
the so-called diktats of commercialism in the Indian Film Industry hold
such a mass appeal. The film manages to tickle, thrill and touch you in
almost every frame. The casting of Om Puri, Deebak Dobriyal, Shreyas
Talpade and to a large extent Yograj Singh and Ragini Khanna (both in
debut performances) is delightful and refreshing. The message of family
values and blood being thicker than water is so effortlessly layered
that you hardly notice it through all that comedy, but walk out feeling
a warmth in your heart and a smile on your face.

The music is basic and reeks of Indianess. The cinematography by
veteran Ashok Mehta (of Pukar and Bandit Queen fame) captures the
beauty of Kashmir giving us picture perfect moments.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good dose of laughter and
would like to share it with their closed ones.
