Verdict - Go for it for the entertainment
The plot is about a simple domesticated housewife and mother to an 11 year old boy who is always ready to enter competitions and try out something new. During one of her winnings of a pressure cooker she has an opportunity to become an RJ at a radio station and she jumps at the offer even though it involves conversing with night callers in a seductive voice on naughty subjects. She is happy in her job, her husband is cooperative but her two elder sisters are unhappy with the nature of her job and the timings. Some developments relating to the son create tension at home and this is attributed to her absence from home. Finally things are sorted out.
The film tackles the delicate issue of the work and personal life balance of the working woman in the Indian context and the effect it has on the husband and the children. It raises the issues connected with a lady working in the night shift.
The director has made a realistic film to which most will relate specially working women. The film mainly focusses on women and their viewpoints. There is middle class but open minded Vidya, then there is her modern and helpful boss Neha Dhupia and finally Vidya's elder sisters who discourage her from working.
Vidya Balan gives an effortless performance as the spirited and lively Sulu who is keen to work. She acts spontaneously and she literally lives the role. As her husband Manav Kaul is good. Some nice acting is seen from Neha Dhupia as her boss at the radio station.
All in all an entertaining film based on a current social issue.
