Yeh Khula Aasman May 27, 2012
0 2.5/5
Before the IPL ends and the biggies dominate the box office, this Friday saw a stream of new releases. Most of the films are what is considered small films in the Bollywood dictionary. Yeh Khula Aasman is one of them.

Avinash (Raj Tandon) has failed his IIT entrance test. His parents are settled in London. A dejected and slightly depressed Avinash goes to his grandfathers (Raghuveer Yadav) house where he learns lifes lessons through a kite flying competition called Khula Aasman.

The film is well intended and deals with not only students struggling with academic pressure but also about children leaving their old parents and settling abroad in search of the elusive green bucks. Sadly the weak execution makes sure that the film leaves us with no emotional impact. The first half is still a breeze thanks the day to day life we see of Avinash at his grandfathers house. There is also a half baked love story between newcomer Raj Tandon and Anya Anand. Sadly the device of the kite flying competition that the film uses to make a point about finding ones inner confidence is in fact a replica of the problem the protagonist was running away from. While actors like Yashpal Sharma and Raghuveer Yadav ham it out in their scenes it is Raj Tandon and Anya Anand who give a natural performance. Director Gitanjali Sinha attempts to make a clean and honest film but lacks a narrative style that could make an impact. With Anand Milind doing the music the songs takes you back on a nostalgia trip of the 90s.

Word of mouth Yeh khula aasman will cater to the older generation looking out for clean films that come with a message.
