Disclaimer : The box office number indicates the approximate lifetime earnings of a film in India. Although it has been collated by extensive secondary research/ resources, we don’t guarantee its accuracy and assume no liability or responsibility for any errors or omissions. However it is sufficiently indicative but not exact figures of the box office performance of a film since release.
Internal bias: I think Ranbir is very cute. I would love to say more but I used to adore Rishi Kapoor and saying the same for his son seems a bit, well, in bad taste
The movie starts on the interesting premise of two people who meet when they are about to commit suicide. But obviously the joy of meeting each other is so great that they quickly recover and start having a good time in the NY pubs where they once again subject the hapless locals to some Indian idea of pop music. (By now, going by the number of songs in discos, the Americans must have definitely picked up a few Hindi words like say shava or soniye and some nifty Bollywood steps.
But I digress. Ok, turns out girl had a cheating boyfriend and the guy lost all in the stock market debacle. They start staying together, go on a holiday and sparks fly. But old love still lingers till the mandatory last minute dash common to all movies in the world-either to an airport or a station or a TV show or like in this movie, a bridge, before it all ends well. Sigh.. I wish there was some originality in all this but I guess the concept of Love itself is not original or I am a hardened cynical etc etc.
Ranbir and Priyanka share good camaraderie and I love Priyankas confidence and style. She is a good role model for young girls even though she has a booze bottle in her hand in most scenes in the movie. Ranbir obviously has taken lessons from Salman on effective shirt removal techniqes. But he has great comic timing (the gay bar sequence is super) and can be a super romantic drool worthy hero given the right material (like the tumse hi tumse song where his exhuberance and innocence blew me away)
The story is lethargic and the suicide attempts in the beginning could have done with a few Madras cut style fast forward editing. I cant say I will remember the songs once they stop playing on the radio.I somehow expect more from Vishal Shekhar.
Ho hum, anjaane mein chale gaye to theek hai otherwise you would do well to spend your money on watching Robot again.
