“Having shown a little bit of promise, this one gives up almost too easily later.”
Do Lafzon ki Kahani took me back to my childhood when I saw the movie Anurag where Moushumi Chatterjee is blind and Vinod Mehra is the doctor. He removes the ‘patti’ from her eyes and she can see again. This ‘ankhon ki roshni’ situation I haven’ t seen since then till today and it made me so nostalgic. It also made me very irritable that people like Deepak Tijori are stuck in a time warp while spending good money on making a movie. It also made me very sad to see Randeep Hooda doing this sidey movie. He can do so much more as his last few movies have shown me. But I guess keeping horses is an expensive hobby and a man has to earn his living somehow.
So an ex- boxer meets a blind girl and falls in love with her. He gave up boxing because he cheated etc and then gave up everything else because he made a man die and caused an accident. Basically, a tortured soul. Then he wants to restore her sight because in a twisted way he was responsible for it and he takes to boxing again and does some crazy things. They bichhdo and then meet again much later in a soppy, maudlin second half. The story is totally stuck in the middle ages with its ideas about love and women. The heroine is a pretty independent blind woman when she meets the hero. She holds down a job and lives alone. But after they are together she leaves her job and lets him look after her. When her boss tries to sexually assault her she was going to give in because after all he was her boss and if she didn’t she would lose her job. And she is a qualified nurse! This kind of drivel can put you off movies forever, really. There are quite a few other similar idiocies that I will not waste my time over, given that by now I have hopefully convinced you not to see the movie. Randeep seems to like transforming himself with lots of make- up like in Sarbjeet. Here too he gets a bulbous nose etc. As himself, he keeps a straight expressionless face. Kajal Aggrwal as the blind girl has a simple cheery and innocent vibe around her and she makes the movie a bit bearable to watch. The songs are a drag.
Deepak Tijori’s clock stopped with Joh Jeeta wahi Sikandar. It shows in the old fashioned story, the mawkish direction and the maudlin overtones. Do lafzon ki khanai do minute mein you can dismiss. Avoid.
