“While Fugly starts off with good intentions, they get lost in its poor performances, messy script and excessively long run-time. You will come out of the theater asking Yeh Fugly Fugly Kyun Hai?”

The opening credits of F*ugly have some sort of statement about the film's purpose but it stays on for so short a time that I could hardly read the first 3 words, and I read at supersonic speeds. That should have warned me about the shallowness of its intentions.

The story tells us about four friends. The girl in the group gets eve teased one day by a local baniya and her 3 pals bundle him into the boot of the car and drive around at full speed with the aim I am guessing of throwing the guy around. They bump into a cop who gets bugged with them because one of the friends has a politician father and says "jaante ho mera baap kaun hai?".So the cop kills the kidnapped guy and starts blackmailing the gang of four for huge amounts of money. The movie turns f*idiotic after this as events and mistakes start piling onto each other in a hopeless and boring fashion.

The movie has a Noble Intention and a Strong Message about women being treated as sex objects and about corrupt politicians. But it gets lost in the item song and the random party dance and the overall silliness that the gang indulge in. Their persecution at the hands of Chautala, the corrupt cop who sets them on the path of ruin seems self inflicted almost, given that one of them has a powerful politician as a father who could have just quashed the whole thing in a second, also given that Chautala works for him too. If the logic doesn't hold up, the story collapses and that is what has happened here. The way the movie ends is f*inane and f*insane.

The performances are mediocre. Vijender Singh should stick to boxing, and Mohit Marwah is like a mannequin. The third guy is too non descript though the new heroine Kiara Advani is pretty and showed some potential. Jimmy Shergill as Chatuala seems to hold himself back from being completely corrupt and evil. I love him usually so this was a bit of a disappointment. The characters who are more interesting are the ones on the periphery such as Anshuman Jha as the debauched Cheeni, Chautala's sidekick Impel Singh and the girl who play the fiance to the third guy.

Young people getting into trouble was done far better in Shaitaan and young people fighting for the right was what Rang de Basanti did to perfection. All that F*ugly does is f*bore you. Avoid.
