Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Aapke Hain Koun, which is an all-time-blockbuster, celebrates love, traditions and values whole heartedly. Prem (Salman Khan) and Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) live with their industrialist uncle, Kailash Nath (Alok Nath) and share a beautiful bond with each other. Along with managing the family business, Rajesh is also mentoring Prem under him. Rajesh's marriage is fixed with Kailash Nath's old friend's elder-daughter, Pooja (Renuka Shahane). While Pooja is shy, traditional and naive, her younger sister, the effervescent Nisha (Madhuri Dixit) is a computer science student who's chirpy and vibrant. Prem and Nisha meet during the wedding and end up falling in love with each other. Their destiny takes a heart-breaking turn when Pooja dies leaving everyone shattered. The whole family is depressed and worried about Rajesh and his little baby, whose mother is no more. Nisha takes care of her sister's son like a mother and considering this, her parents (Anupam Kher & Reema Lagoo) decide to get her married to Rajesh. She's under the impression that her marriage is being fixed with Prem and happily gives her nod without realising the truth. Upon understanding the reality, both Prem and Nisha decide to sacrifice their love for Rajesh and the baby. On the wedding day, Nisha comes across the necklace that Pooja had given her as a token of love for her future devrani (sister-in-law). She asks Tuffy, the dog to return it back to Prem. However, Tuffy carries the letter to Rajesh who, after learning the truth confronts Prem and Nisha. The lovers are united and finally get married to each other. HAHK is one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Hindi Cinema whose adjusted nett gross sits at 710 crores. Apart from winning the National Award for 'Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment', it also went onto win some of the major Filmfare Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress. Apparently, Madhuri Dixit was paid more than Salman Khan for the film which made her the highest paid actress of her time. The film also boasts off a soundtrack of over 14 songs, all of which became a rage back in the 90's. HAHK is an adaptation of Rajshri's Bhojpuri film, Nadiya Ke Paar and it was also dubbed in Telugu with the title 'Premalayam'. This was director Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan's second collaboration after the superhit, Maine Pyaar Kiya. less
