“The film based on the education for the underprivileged kids fails to connect with the audience because of its average narrative and repetitive sequences. Only its decent performances make the film bearable.”

The new movie name I Am Kalam is a film based on the life of an underprivileged child who inspires to achieve laurels like Indian President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. With his dreams of becoming a respected person like him, the film concentrates on portrayal of the aspirations of a kid and triumph of his dreams. The film even has a cameo of Dr. Kalam in the climax of the movie.

Subtle portrayal of the thoughts of the scriptwriter in I Am Kalam has got a larger-than-life feel to it. Despite having a realistic approach to it, the movie is deeply rooted and has been shot with simplicity along with the appreciation of optimist thoughts and positive outlook. Harsh Mayar plays the character of Chotu how works in a roadside dhaba and supports his destitute family with his meager income. He befriends Husaan Saad playing the character of Ranvijay Singh, a boy whose family runs the hotel. Chotu is a keen-observer and a quick-learner who is helped by his friend anvijay in his quest to become an educated person. When he learns that President Kalam himself suffered many hardships in his childhood, Chotu rechristens himself as Kalam and aims to achieve success and education against all odds.

The film emphasis on the dreams of a teenage boy who aims high despite his poverty stricken life in Rajasthan and focuses on attaining knowledge. Hilarious moments in the movie are delivered by Chotus coworker played by Pitobash Tripathy and acting of Gulshan Grover is commendable. Strong screenplay presented by Sanjay Chauhan is plausible along with the attempt of director Nila Madhab Panda. The purpose of the movie is clear, that dreams do come true, they just need compassion and dedication, enough to make them come alive.
