This is the story of orphan girl Indu ( Kirti Kulhari) who goes through tough times during the 1975 emergency era. She is married to bureaucrat Mr Sarkar who along with his colleagues and superiors is under the heavy pressure of a Sanjay Gandhi look alike ( Neil Nitin Mukesh) to ruthlessly implement the 20 point programme mainly vasectomy. Indu is a docile but strong woman and does not approve of the excesses of the Govt machinery while they go about forcing sterilisation on men and destroying hutments to build multistorey buildings at Turkman gate. The movie focusses on how she takes on the establishment after joining a group of rebels led by Nanaji ( Anupam Kher).
Director Bhandarkar makes the film fairly interesting despite the slow pace and dreary unfolding of the plot. Obviously the film will find easy connect only with the 60 plus group. Kirti Kulhari gives a spirited performance as the hapless suffering woman . Neil is wooden and stiff as the rude and arrogant tyrant.
