Kick is an action movie directed by Sajid Nadiadwala and stars Salman Khan in the lead role

“Kick is a treat for Salman Khan fans but with obvious plot holes. A thrilling second half, the talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui and non-stop masala will leave fanboys kicked!”

Regular readers of my reviews are aware that I am a huge fan of Salman and wait for his movies eagerly. His last film Jai Ho was a total dud and it was with trepidation and a sense of nervousness that I went to see Kick. But all Sallu fans can breathe a sigh of relief and dance in the aisles. In Kick, Sallu does with perfection what he is best at doing- being himself. He is funny, romantic and an action hero to boot complete with the Zorro type mask.

The story is a bit convoluted to explain. In short, there is Devi Lal Prasad a good guy who does dare devil stuff just for kicks and Devil a bad guy and of course both are the same person. But the bad guy can't actually be bad can he? So why does the good guy become a bad guy etc. ,etc make up the movie.

The story is not all that bad but suffers mainly due to odd jumps and patchy editing. The main problem is an abrupt flashback that not only changes the mood considerably and slows down the pace but ends up totally confusing you for a while. Its as if the director realized suddenly that "Arre this is the most important part and hum to bhool hi gaye! Chalo yahan daal do!" I also did not understand Devi Lal's schizophrenic behavior when he goes to meet his future dad-in-law and since that is the turning point in the story it was a bit strange to make it so lame. So the story loops a bit but doesn't become boring because of a few well times laughs and some good action sequences. Pre-interval its all romance and fun and games and post interval there is a solid bit of action aided by the entry of a first class villain act by Nawazzudin Siddique.

Salman is awesome and gives you full value for your money. He lights up the screen every time he is on it (which is most of the film) and makes you realize what a true star he is. Randeep Hooda as the police guy chasing him and Nawazzudin are superb supports. Even Jacqueline does a good job and sizzles in a totally awesome dance sequence in Jhumme ki raat hai. Saurabh Shukla, Mithunda and Archana Puran Singh provide good support to the main star cast.

Overall, Kick is an entertaining movie to watch. The story has a few good twists, the villain has a signature popping sound that is used to good effect and Salman gives you enough reasons to continue to be his fan. Can take kids. Enjoy your weekend and Eid Mubarak!
