plot

Written by Imtiaz Ali who we believe to be the master craftsman of romance, this one is based on the classic Laila Majnu story with the same title. Set in the backdrop of Kashmir, the film stars Avinash Tiwary as Kais and Tripti Dimri as Majnu as the lead.

Verdict

“This one has traces of Imtiaz Ali's brand of romance, worth a watch”

Frankly the youtube short stories of 5 minutes duration have more content than this over publicized dragging stuff called Laila Majnu. The bright side is you cannot blame Imtiyaz Ali productions of not doing what they are expected to do. Create a screenplay less movie. The content of this movie could have been a simple straight five minute short film on Youtube, for all you know it could have become a cult there. Instead Sajid Ali decided to add another 135 odd minutes to it and serving it to an unsuspecting audience. Imagine watching those six sixers hit by Yuvraj Singh 28 times in a stretch with a 12 minute break. That is Laila Majnu.
The movie has the most simplest forever told story of forbidden love and this one is as entertaining to watch as Anil KapoorSridevi’s super dud from the 1990s called Heer Ranjha.
Since this one is about forbidden or cursed or both love nothing goes right for lover boy and lover girl ever in this movie. Right from the time that time when they fall in love to the end of the movie guess there is not a single moment of brightness in the movie.
So every passing five minutes the level of tragedy go up like in a computer game where after a certain stage the level gets tougher. You can also add the regular snooty daddy bitch bua spineless mama though they are slightly intellectually presented . Intellectual presentation means they don’t overact and most of the time they are with minimal make up or make up that naked untrained eye cannot catch.
The movie is set in Kashmir so you get to see some beautiful visuals of Kashmir too.
Oh yes there is one more solid benefit of watching this movie. If you have ever wondered how would it feel to spend half an hour with a man who has lost his marbles please watch this one because in the last half of this movie we are treated to the craziness of the lead man with total freedom by the director.
Frankly if this is what intellectual cinema will deliver for us please give me the Dabanggs and the Judwaa2 any day !

Go watch Rishi Kapoor and Ranjeeta's Laila Majnu trust me that one had more jazz !!

One star for performances.
