“Though its hero Varun Dhawan is commendable, Main Tera Hero gets zero points for its story. A time pass comedy for die hard David Dhawan fans.”

How difficult is it to take a film with the hero called Seenu and a disposition of ripping off his shirt every 25 seconds and shake a leg while running behind every two legs in a skirt? Turns out very, especially if there is no rhyme or reason to why he is doing it all. Main Tera Hero tries really really hard to convince us that it is funny and that Dhavan Jr is the next Govinda. Saly neither of the two is true.
Seenu loves a girl, who is in a forced affair with another guy, a second girl has his eyes on Seenu, and somewhere in this triangle is a don, two jokers and sundry other cameos without a purpose. Such is the mangled state of afairs that one really doesnt know after the first 30 minutes what is the story here. Then of course, as the songs and chest baring takes precedence, one just stops trying as well. Most of Dhavan Seniors escapades in his hey days were of this category no doubt. Yet, they had an innate charm, a wit to them, and most importantly they had Govinda, who could make tomfoolery look convincing and make us laugh with him.
Main Tera Hero has Varun. Varun has screen presence, he looks good, has a good body, dances well, can mouth lines when needed (at times when not as well) and has the potential to be a star. Is he Govinda then? Not yet. He desperately visibly is trying hard to make things work, but is terribly let down by a hollow script that gives up midway entirely forcing the film to slip into unspeakable drivel. Ileana and Nargis could easily have been replaced by a lamp stand each and nothing would have changed in the film. So it is left to veterans like Anupam Kher and Saurabh Shukla to make things a little better than a total washout but poor souls how long could they hold fort?
A remake of a telugu hit Kandireega, MTH is at best a good excuse to escape the heat outside by enjoying "Hall ka AC" for three odd hours. The songs wont kill you, if you can get past the story (or the absence of it). Be my guest if this is what you look for in a film.
