“A short, sweet, fast paced college film that engrosses the audience with its refreshing cast, likeable music and interesting storyline. Go for it!”

Sometime back there was a news article about a student of IIMB committing suicide because her boyfriend had ditched her on FB. We do not know if the public humiliation made her do it, but it brought home the fact that social networking is an intrinsic part of every life in todays world. Older people use things like Facebook to reconnect with their friends and family and youngsters use it for, well, everything. You are not swimming with the tide if you are not always on your BB or phone or chatting with pals on FB.
Mujshe Fraandship Karoge is a movie that picks up on this aspect of social life and weaves a romance around it. Vishal and Preity are working on the college annual day project together but cant stand each other. Theyare keen on getting pallier with each others pals though. Preity want to be friends with the rock star singer and Vishal with Preitys fashion designer friend. They impersonate their friend on FB and strike up a friendship with their respective objects of affection. Only that those two actually fall in live with each other. Vishal and Preity are left trying to find the true story and their true love after some mix ups.
The movie is short and sweet at under two hours. The script is zingy and the action is fast paced. There is no place for undue melodrama or filmy histrionics. The characters are like people you would meet on a regular day which makes it refreshing to watch. The songs by Raghu Dixit (of the Raghu Dixit Project) are quite good and I have a feeling they could grow on you after a few hearings. One of them, Dhaeon dhaeon is especially good for its combination of funky lyrics and dhol beats. It should be a hit on the dance floor this New year eve.
The film has a fresh new star cast which is very spontaneous and natural. The hero played by Saquib Saleem is not conventionally good looking but is extremely charming and likeable. I dont see him as a hero in regular movies but he would do very well in offbeat movies. Saba Azaad as Preity has an elfin charm that is appealing. She is also a vocalist. Nishant Dahiya as the rock star has hero looks but is a bit wooden in his acting, perhaps constrained by those very looks. Tara DSouza as Malvika as is the only one who is a bit of a misfit maybe because of her strange international accent which is explained away by the fact that she grew up pn Singapore. The guy who playsVishals best pal Hacky is hilarious. I would love to see more of him in other films.
This movie is a breeze to watch, with charming actors, good music and a story that is so connected to the modern world. The college crowd should like it and for the rest, it offers a chance to think back on college romances and wonder what twists your life would have taken if there was FB then. A recommended watch for a pleasant stress free evening.
