Can you think of a situation where a mother working as a domestic maid and with no clue of class 10 maths seeks and gets admission in class 10 in which her teenage daughter is studying? This happens in this movie. Call it women empowerment or adult education or whatever but there is strong message coming loud and clear. If you have guts, grit and determination you can achieve almost anything. Swara Bhaskara in an inspired role plays an uneducated woman of economically weak section determined to make her school going daughter a district collector (DC) and definitely does not want her to become a domestic servant like her. She keeps motivating her daughter to do well in studies. There are hiccups in this mother daughter relationship but everything gets sorted out in the end.Director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari has made a simple no frills movie with a straightforward storyline miles away from the current crop of commercial films. This is film meant both for festivals and audiences-- a rare breed. There are gaps in the script and a couple of scenes lack credibilty. All in all, well worth a visit for the good acting of Swara Bhaskar. Sanjay Suri in a brief role as a district collector has done a good job too . Similarly Ratna Pathak Shah acts well as the mistress of the illiterate maid servant and who helps her out by getting her daughter admitted in the school.
