“Average is the perfect word to describe this film. The characters lack chemistry, the screenplay is redundant & slow, and the music, dull. Give this Vinay Pathak and Neha Dhupia starrer a miss in the theaters.”

Vinay Pathak has carved a character for himself that filmmakers revolve stories around. Its great to see character artistes get that kind of recognition in the industry but it really becomes redundant beyond a point. Papu Can't Dance Saala treads this line very finely.

The story is something straight out of a rom-com from the eighties and doesn't give you much food for thought. The dialogues though good in places really doesn't show anything new. And the screenplay progresses at a snail's pace especially post interval and the climax is textbook.

Vinay Pathak is Vinay Pathak and sleepwalks through this one. Neha Dhupia is establishing herself as an indie actress who otherwise would have disappeared into Julie-like oblivion but because of some smart career moves is still very much around. The chemistry between the leading pair is sweet though Dhupia looks as awkward with Pathak as Lara Dutta did in Challo Dilli. Rajat Kapoor looks like a clone of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and doesn't have much to do in the film in spite of having a really important second lead.

Saurabh Shukla displays a laid back charm in his direction and uses a few directorial tricks that gives some depth to an otherwise shallow film. The music is not much to write home about.

All in all the film is as lukewarm as it gets. 2.5 stars
