"sir aajkal jo market main bikta hai , wohi dil ki awaaz ban jaata hai"

Manjot a TRP generating clown in a reality music show says this to Arjun Rampal's Joe in one of the most heart warming moments of this movie. Rock On 2 will for sure drive comparisons with the original. Some will like it. Some will like it some will not but Rockon2 is a soul thirst quencher in my book.

Rockon2 is actually dripping with sincerity and an effort to make us look at life positively despite the tragedies it offers almost all of us at some point in time. Almost all of its characters live with pain. A successful band professional who blames himself for a painful incident from the past ,Aditya. Joe played by Arjun Rampal who is yet to overcome memories of an early insecure life. KD who is always trying to balance things in friends and try to find meaning to his commercial music ridden boring life. Jiya who lives with a father who is bitter and aloof and the loving brother that Jiya once had is long gone and dead. Yet these characters live on sometime alone and sometime together to find hope in life and actually try to bring peace to themselves and those around them. In a brilliant climax which again is kept tightly on subtle leash they all rescue themselves and a village from despair. Rock On 2 leaves us with feelings of how hope when filled with music can make us overcome at times the greatest of our pains.

Rock On 2 carries on forward from the original and shows how the band magik has dispersed with each of its characters moving on with their paths in life , till they meet in a remote northeast Indian village where Aditya has found his calling. The friends realize over there that while they are trying to move on none of them is actually happy and none of them have actually been able to vanquish their own inner demons.

Through a coincidence Aditya gets connected with Jiya and how they find support in each other , till mid point of the story a cruel coincidental fact comes visiting. How all of these move on from there and come to the aid of this village in northeast which is suffering the evil of exploitation and a natural calamity is the basic plot of the movie.

The brilliance of RockOn 2 however is not in its basic plot. The brilliance of RockOn2 is the positivity it tries to drive through characters who should have been expected to buckle down and surrender to life. They do not. In the process tugging at our hearts in their own victories. There are many such scenes in the movie which make you go wow. Like how a clown called Manjit actually comes to the aid when all hope is lost. How Joe for all his selfish and arrogance on surface is a good man at heart when he advises Manjot to listen to his heart , which I have already written above. How Jiya who actually lives a life of daily pain and despair helps Aditya in his most weakest moment of depression.Rock On2 is a celebration of life.

Rockon2 has some brilliantly written lines one of them I have written above and the rest I am not going to write here that will be one major spoiler. Go hear them from the characters in those situations. They are not delivered Raajkumar style but trust me they leave impact.

The entire narrative of Rockon2 has been kept deliberately subtle.Scenes which could have become high drama in normal routine movies have been handled with great maturity and for that director Shujaat Saudagar deserves applause.

Four stars , yes I am totally biased for this one.
