There is an old pet. Then comes the new pet. Old pet feels insecure. Tries to outdo the new one and falls into trouble. Ring any bells? The Secret Life of Pets is like the fun part of Animal Farm and the slightly boring part of Toy Story blended into one. The result is average. You won't just go 'Aww' at the pets in the show but the movie has its own moments. There are the sweet ones and the grumpy ones, with a leader gathering forces in the form of lost pets to take revenge. The talking animals are entertaining at times but uninteresting at most points. It is a good watch for the family, but this animation adventure really doesn't have anything that can blow your mind.

Unlike in Toy Story though, there are no underlying themes in this one and at the end of the day it is just a simple movie, with some fun animals, solving their issues. Obviously, pet owners will be able to relate and laugh at some of the antics. Fans of Louis CK would be able to enjoy the voice of their favorite stand-up comedian playing the lead here. There are attempts at quirks as the pets hatch their plots but most of them are not funny. Nevertheless, enjoy your pleasant day out :P
