Onir is one of those directors who makes movies with off beat themes where the relationships are a taboo in the society.Shab also belongs to this category. Here we have a neglected upper end wife ( Raveena Tandon) who' plays' with her 'desired toy'( Ashish Bisht) and a 'traficked single mother' ( Arpita Chatterjee) being persued by two men( One being Ashish) for different reasons. The presentation is akin to Delhi Raat Ki Bahon Mein. When all have slept the stated characters wake up to be in sleaze. The homos are not far behind. The locales are the coffee shop, the pub and the hotel. One thing is clear ,even men( Ashish ,a struggling model) have to go through the ' casting couch. In such a relationship the woman ( Raveena) is domineering. Also, any person( both genders) whose not empowered is vulnerable to be exploited. Here Raveena not only exploits Ashish because she feels lonely plus has the power to set her models. The day her husband ( Sanjay Suri) licks her credit card ,she has to pawn all her jewellery to discharge a debt.
Whom does Ashish go with ?( Raveena or Arpita).Go see for yourself. Raveena 'the seductress' is unlike her image .Ashish is confident in his debut role .Could draw the attention of other film makers.Arpita also shones in her subdued role.
