“Akshay Kumar, Annu Kapoor and Piyush Mishra are the only remotely funny elements in a film that is boring, flimsy and inane. The Shaukeens is an easy miss. ”

The Shaukeen’s is a remake of the 1982 film Shaukeen. As with most remakes these days, The Shaukeen’s also disappoints. What we get is a watered down version, missing most of the wit and charm of the original. It’s also a movie that’s painfully out of sync with the current reality. A movie about three pervy old men is really playing with fire here, unless handled tastefully, which this movie is not.

The Shaukeen’s narrates the tale of three lecherous old men (Anupam Kher, Piyush Mishra and Annu Kapoor), who crave attention from the opposite gender. As time passes, simply ogling at pretty women doesn’t seem satisfying any longer and they decide to go for a trip to Mauritius (because apparently Bangkok is too lewd for this movie) to ‘take care of business’. Once there, these three misfits run into Lisa Haydon, who’s conveniently become single recently. She also happens to be a huge fan of Akshay Kumar and would do anything to meet him. Sensing an opportunity to be in her good graces, these three lechers start cooking up schemes to make this dream of her come true.

The Shaukeen’s would have been completely terrible had it not been for Akshay Kumar’s extended cameo. The three old men are dull, unrelatable characters, and Lisa Hayden does her best to bring life to a character that is clearly one dimensional. There are better movies to watch this weekend. Avoid.
