In 2011 came a film called Tanu Weds Manu with a not so starry cast or set-up directed by a first-timer who the world didn't know back then. Given that, the film not only gathered critical acclaim but became really popular among the masses and perfectly justified a anti-heroine personality in its lead character for almost the first time in Bollywood. And now in 2015, the trio of R. Madhavan, Kangana and Anand L Rai comes back and this time the ride gets crazier.
The movie starts with Tanu returning to Kanpur from London because she is sick of the Manu's demands. After 4 years into marriage, she now finds him boring and unattractive. Even Manu is fed of Tanu's childish behavior and is all set to end the relation and sends her divorce notice. But the twist comes when Manu finds Kusum, Tanu's lookalike and Delhi University student and falls in love with her all over again. And the best part is, he is able to woo her and convince her parents for their marriage too. So it all becomes a ciaos as now Tanu gets a 'Jhatka' and she is heart-broken! What happens next is the rest of the story.
The movie has some brilliant one-liners penned down by the writer Himanshu Sharma. The beautiful set-up and the well rooted 'Indian' feel of the movie is something only Anand L Rai can do as we have seen in Raanjhanaa. Though the movie gets confusing, a little bit illogical but ignoring that it's a must watch.
TWMR is much better than the first part and the difference for me here is Datto A.K.A. Kusum! Kangana lifts the movie on her own and the way she is growing in terms of her acting skills with every single movie is does is commendable. This Haryanvi act of hers is a class act! Not only she went into the skin of the character with looks and dialect but also the journey of Delhi University sports quota admission girl from that to a girl madly in love is incredible. Even she portrays Tanu to perfection. Both seemed very very different characters. How the small detailing and traits of both the characters differ was a treat to watch.
R.Madhavan does the role of a reserved, quiet and simple husband who falls in love again with ease. His nuisances are amazing to watch and he faultlessly expresses the complexity of his character and shares it with the audience. Deepak Dobriyal as Pappi ji is the funniest man in the movie. Every time he's on screen, it's a laughter riot. Rest of the cast includes Jimmy Shergil, Swara Bhaskar, Rajesh Sharma and many others and every person has performed wonderfully well.
I a big fan of such movies and would definitely recommend you to go and watch the movie in Theaters!
