Mr & Mrs. Deshmukh get to collect some memories for their future kids with this sweet, romantic comedy. The future baby Deshmukhs will see how cute their mom was and know exactly why their dad fell in love with her. They probably will wonder why she fell in Iove with him, but the movie will teach them that love is blind.
Riteish plays an auto driver Viren, who tries to get his money back from the guy whose auto he used to drive. Instead he gets kidnapped by the guy's feisty daughter Mini who is running away from a marriage of convenience. Predictably, they fall in love and then the twists start. Turns out Viren is actually the son of a professional kidnapper and he has left home since he does not want to live on 'haram ki kamai'. The couple get kidnapped by the dad and then Mini wins over the family like SRK in DDLJ. Anyway, the ending is pretty cute too and though you can easily guess it I won't tell.
Riteish is a bit awkward as a romantic hero but serves as a good foil to Genelia's high spirits. Her cheeriness would grate if it were not for the fact that she looks completely natural doing it. Om Puri as the CEO of the professional kidnapping organisation is pretty good also. The scene where Genelia tries to teach him how to run is operation more professionally is quite funny. Tinu Anand as Mini's dad is also good.
There are a couple of instances of sloppy direction like when the couple keep changing clothes though they have no money to eat and stones artistically strewn on the road ready for Viren to pick up and throw at some hoodlums or even tape being conveniently handy to tie up the girl. But we have to attribute these things to Bollywood logic and let them pass.
The songs are not bad, specially Atif Aslam's number during the end credits and the romantic 'main wari jawaan' by Shreya Ghoshal and Atif Aslam. The dreaded item number also shows itself but is not so revolting since Genelia starts dancing in it halfway through and redeems it from Veena Malik's total crassness.
In spite of the fact that the movie has a few stupid moments that don't work, overall it is passable entertainment. There are some good laughs and you can let go of your tensions for the duration of the movie, knowing that nothing very taxing is going to happen. Of course, could have been shorter but its quite ok for a one time watch.
