Tevar is an engaging movie for the most part. The story is not very unusual and nor is the treatment; in fact, you can see a few scenes and 'surprise' elements coming at you a mile away. However, the storytelling especially in the first half is pretty compact and that keeps you engaged.
Pintu is the son of an upright Police officer and though a local wastrel is good at heart and beats up goons who harass women. Inadvertently, he ends up rescuing a girl who is running away from a powerful politician who is set on marrying her. Innumerable chases later they fall in love and then more fights happen till the story draws to a close. Like I said nothing new.
The movie would have been far more interesting if they had banished all the songs. They slacken the pace, are not even that great and are inserted so randomly that they make you impatient. That is the biggest drawback of the movie. The first half clips along well though the second half could have been made much shorter. The chase and the fights got tiresome after a while and I almost nodded off in the important bits.
Arjun Kapoor is in full form kicking and smashing people and finally giving a few heart melting intense romantic looks,. His camaraderie with his friends also is enjoyable. Sonakshi the Dumpling doesn't look that much of a dough girl maybe because she is more or less in two sober outfits throughout. She also manages to emote decently and give longing puppy dog looks to Arjun. The girl who plays Arjun's sister was great fun to watch. Wish she had more to do. Manoj Bajpai as the politician in love is smashing.
Tevar is not a bad watch. It is a tad too long at 2.5 hours but there is a lot happening in that time and the songs give you a chance catch up on your Whatsapp messages or make a few quick calls. Not a bad deal I think.
