Disclaimer : The box office number indicates the approximate lifetime earnings of a film in India. However it is sufficiently indicative but not exact figures of the box office performance of a film since release.
The trailer of this film gave out a vibe that it will be a loud, melodramatic film. Thankfully it is not.
We are Family starts of well and is pretty smooth sailing till the interval even though it takes too much time to set up the premise. But after it sets the plot into motion the screenplay falls flat. It tries hard to engage but fails primarily because of a weekly written middle. There isnt enough conflict to keep one interested in the drama. What also doesnt work is Kajol as the character of Maya. Kajol has a very child like quality to herself and that goes against the character she plays. This time around the character didnt deserve her & the film doesnt do justice to this brilliant actor. She is not able to bring out the range of emotion her character is supposed to feel. When she reacts out of jealousy it looks like she is ready for a catfight. Kareena tries her best to do justice to a half baked character. At one point she is a career woman and in a moment she becomes this loyal girl friend standing by her man. Arjun Rampal steps into a role which was earlier SRKs territory and in spite of not having much to do give an earnest performance. His maturity as an actor can be seen in the emotional scenes. Siddharth Malhotra does not impress in his debut but scores brownie points in keeping the drama mellow. Arjun Rampal with a beard in the end is the hilarious moment of the film. The climax is one of the weakest ever written.
Final Few Words: Wish the makers would have spent enough time on the screenplay rather than spending time trying to find an apt title for the film.
