The opening scene of Madhavan messing with airport staff gives you an idea about the laugh riot that is about to begin. 3 Idiots is more about playing with the funny bone than being preachy. Its straight fun movie with a message that got hyped but not overexposed. Kudos to Hirani for that.
3I is undeniably an adaptation of Five Point Someone. While FPS never got into the preachy mode, Ryan in FPS and Rancho in 3I were sides of the same coin. The character of Raju is too familiar. So we can easily brush off the tall claims of originality. However, they did add some more content for good and drafted a brilliant script. Cheers to that. The way they maintained the flow of story and kept the sermons under translucent wraps is really commendable.
Aamir is the star of the show. As Rancho, by his demeanor he proves that he can easily wear skin of any character. Madhavan as Farhan is equally commendable. But the actor you will never forget is Sharman Joshi. He almost eclipsed Aamir by his screen presence and deserves standing ovation for it. Boman Irani put another apt act. His mannerisms were more geeky and devious than the one in Munnabhai M.B.B.S. and he did a brilliant job as ViruS. Fortunately Kareena had a little role. Too much glam might have ruined the movie. One special note. You might forget but with a few scenes in script, Chatur (Omi Vaidya) is able to tickle more funny bones than the three leads put together.
Music of the movie is smooth and likeable. However, sometimes the echo of Behti Hawa Sa becomes irritating. But pardonable. Cinematography is absolute delight to watch. The picturization of Laddakh is awesome. Overall, technicians did a fair job. Direction? Well, after two Munnabhai movies, Raju just raised his bar with this movie.
3I is a smart fresh movie that sometimes brings in the charm of young writers with cinematic sensibility of Hrishikesh Mukherjee. In my opinion, there can be no excuse to miss this one.

3 idiots is 21st century reforming concept coined by rajkumar hirani. A motion picture depicting the current Indian education system and problems faced by sincere students. A film with a satirical title revealing that this so called logical society has a illogical or idiotic method of living and this can only be changed by idiots. Aamir khan at its best gave a blistering performance. Completely different concept developed and presented terrifically. Rajukumar hirani a jubilant director makes all the right shots whether it is the place where the movie is shot ,the magical defense with the bulb by rancho, or the heart attack scene, the runaway bride or the emphatically humorous speech by chatur, the definition of book or a scientific process of prerajulistion and farhanitrate, the twist and turn in the movie or the engineered city of leh, or how we make our simple and easy life difficult and complicated, the crazy scene in the end where a engineer makes a delivery so stupid but so adorable. After a long time bollywood has seen such a fresh and original movie. 3 idiots is not just a movie but a revolutionary voice to change things. We might be living in a modern age but still few things have to be changed. Most aspiring notions of 3 idiots is make a living on something you love to do and not what others want you to do. In life always try to live a life in the way you want to live and not how other or society want to you to live. One peculiar thing about rajkumar hirani is that he invents new things munnabhai mbbs jaddu ki japi, lage raho munnabhai gandhigiri and 3 idiots the best tagline AAL IS WELL.All these simple scintillating concepts clubbed together makes a very good film. 3 idiots gives everything a viewer needs humor, emotion and entertainment. All in all a brilliant movie, not just for entertainment but to learn and to work on the mistake. Finally, if aal is well 3diots might be the best movie of the decade. less

I really hate these kind of films. They have every ingredient in just the right measure, but not a bit more - so whether those tears are of khushi or of gham, you are never really sure (think Rang De Basanti). You can see shades of your favourite films from all over the globe in them. Shawshank Redemption springs to mind in this case for more than one reason, as does Dil Chahta Hai, among a host of others. You just wait for the moment which lets you point your finger at the screen and scream - 'A-ha! Plagiarism!' but sadly, that moment never arrives (remember Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, right?) - not for a frame can you accuse the makers of 'lifting' content here and form there, and even then they manage to ooze a style which is totally their own. If you take them literally, they seem to be giving out the wrong kind of message (think RDB, again). But above all, these are those rare films that successfully manage to balance cinematic brilliance without compromising an inch when it comes to mainstream appeal (and now, for one final time - think RDB).
The above list is not at all exhaustive - I am out of words. Yes, there are songs being actually sung by characters - but not only do they actually take the narrative forward (that's true in the case of every half-decent film nowadays), the situations actually seem vaguely believable, so much so that you can't possibly skip to the loo, my darlin'. Yes, the number of borderline unrealistic scenarios are possibly one too many for it to be passed off as a mere string of coincidences (and I say borderline because taken one at a time, they can happen) but given the target audience, such filmi creative liberty is more than acceptable - and if you find this to be escapism, then that cynic within you needs to be put on a leash. Just think about this - when was the last time you heard such words during a cheesy rain-song-dance? When was an emergency delivery handled with such precision so as to actually make it seem real?
I read Five Point Someone 5 years ago and don't remember much of it except for the basic outline, so comparisons with the novel go out the window - although from what little I remember, the plot seemed fresh enough. R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi excel as Farhan and Raju, and for the first time in many, many blue moons, I have something positive to say about Kareena - she was good as Pia. Heck, praises are in order for everyone, be it Boman Irani as the khadoos director of the Imperial College of Engineering Viru, the rest of the cast or, for that matter, the entire music department - from the wordsmith Swanand Kirkire to the master composer Shantanu Moitra, with all the playback singers in between - Shaan, Sonu, Shreya, Suraj...hey, what's with the 'S' obsession? Ah, never mind - although I mussst mention that I didn't misss the lisssp (or whatever it is that this speech impediment is called) either.
And finally, the stars of the show. Mr. Rajkumar Hirani, take a bow! It is amazing how you are successfully able to sell genuine human goodness in this kalyug over and over again. If it takes 3 years for you to ensure perfection, then so be it - let Munnabhai not reach Amrika before 2012. And Aamir, please don't let hiccups like Ghajini ruin your average - you are so much more convincing as a twenty-something, and not at all so as a desi Hulk! But thanks to both of you - ever since 2007, many of us (including myself) had been hoping for a marriage between RDB and Lage Raho Munnabhai. And while comparisons are both inevitable as well as immaterial (and on a strictly personal note, absolutely inexcusable) - this is that big fat wedding. Do yourself a favour and go watch it NOW.

No doubt, that it was the biggest hit of all time. A brilliant effort of just having the basic from a novel and the story is totally different from all stereotypical Indian movies. Rajkumar Hirani has done it again, 3 hit in a row. The movie is based on "Five point someone" but only the character of Hari (played by Sharman) seems to be a little bit from the movie.
3 idiots is all about two friends who embark on a mission to find their lost friend. On this journey they encounter the forgotten bet, a wedding that they must crash, a funeral which turns out to be a laughter along with their past story. Starting with ragging, dean's speech, class bunks, drink and learn, the bone-tickling speech by Chatur aka silencer (Omi Vaidhya) and lot more.
The movie is a total Indian movie having flavor of Comedy, Drama, Romance no action because for that we have our Hollywood. Rajkumar Hirani always make films which people can relate with their life.
After "Jaadu ki jappi" and "Gandhigiri", one more new Mantra- "All is Well".

After Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Rajkumar Hirani is back. Again with a movie which covers very relevant social issues with a complete masala package. He is the Hrishikesh Mukherjee of globalised era. After making a bhai, & Gandhigiri cool with his previous ventures, this time he has made Idiot a cool word to hear for. The movie takes a dig at the current education system & our attitudes towards learning in an entertaining fashion.
The film is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's 5 point someone and moves beyond the realm of college life to universal appeal. The film starts in narrative, of two friends searching for their third friend whom they haven't meet after college graduation. The the 3 engineering students, the friends, are played by Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Rancchoddas (aamir Khan). The film moves in flashback, to and fro, narating the college incidents.
Ranchoddas is maverick who think beyond the traditional institution and cherished ideas of learning by rot. He fells in love with Pia (kareena kapoor), the daughter of the college principal (played by Boman Irani). Aamir's character is little too larger than life, nothing is impossible for him, he can top the exam, file 300 patents, can teach his seniors a lesson for ragging, can help in child birth. Still, the character goes completely with the film. The film not only attacks the lacking education standards of our country, where education for value is more important than education for learning.
The movie touches on very important issues of suicides, following your passion rather than following the heard, the division/demarcation of students on the basis of grades and still never fails to entertain you. How many movies have you come across you enlighten and entertain.
The performances are undoubtedly marvelous, Aamir at the age of 40 fits aptly the character of college guy , Kareena is bubbly as her role required, Sharman and madhavan are really good and as usual Boman with a rough tongue is fabulous.
Also, the introduction speech by Chatur is very hilarious.
Many cliched scenes, father brooding over his son's career, bride running from the marriage, but still is film looks so good to watch. All this is because of one man, Raj Kumar Hirani. He makes his movie which such a heart, that it comes out as a treat for audiences to watch. He can connect with the audience so well. His impeccable direction surely makes him a finest director of this era. And if Jaadu ki Chappi, Gandhigiri were on the nation's mouth after his two previous movie releases, this time the nation is going to sing "All is well" and truely calling someone an idiot will now be a complement.
