Verdict - Haphazardly told story. Avoidable

Agent VinodWatch trailerRelease date : March 23, 2012

There are thrillers like Kahaani where the spy is truly undercover and gets the bad guy with intelligence and hard work and then then there is Agent Vinod who just jet sets around the world killing everyone in sight before almost heroically killing himself. It's enough proof for him that you look Russian, speak an obscure language and wear a leather jacket, to pump 65 bullets into you and then catch the next flight to Morocco, Somalia or wherever.

The story is very simple. There is a suitcase bomb (a rather large one I would say since it is the size of your bathroom geyser) that has to be detonated by a remote hidden in a book. The book keeps changing hands, agent Vinod keeps chasing it till it all gets sorted out. There is no suspense, no scary moments, no edge of seat excitement. A whole host of actors come and go from the scene, from Ravi Kishen to Prem Chopra to Gulshan Grover to Rajat Kapur to Arif Zakaria and of course the ubiquitous firangs. And they all kill and/or get killed trying to get their hands the book.

Saif looks decent in all the well fitted clothes and Kareena is all plump pink flesh in a tight red gown. All she does is make doe eyes at whoever happens to be in front of her. There are no romantic scenes between them to give you some respite from the nonsensical goings on. Even Saif's sense of humour (which could have been used to great effect, like say Remington Steele) is absent.

The mujra sequence is a bore and only serves to show up Kareena's paunch when compared to the other dancer. Pyar ki pungi plays along with the end credits by which time you are fighting your way out of the theatre to escape the idiocy. There is a romantic song with the word 'safeena' in it that plays when a lot of killing is going on. The song is good but wasted here. Shaitan had a similar sequence where the remix of khoya khoya chand played when the cops are chasing the youngsters. It worked superbly there. Here it just grates. The background score has some great percussion though which for me was the saving grace of the movie.

The titles list a lot of partners like media partner etc. One of the partners is Colgate as 'Confidence partner'. Saif surely needed a lot of confidence to make a movie like this with a one line story that he spins out for 3 hours. If you have watched the promos on TV that's about all you need to see to get this movie. Avoid.
