Verdict - A Mess of a Movie
I have to say I had high hopes from Agent Vinod and after watching the finished product all I can say is that the movie takes extra pains to ensure anything worthwhile that is promised is systematically crushed to leave me fuming at the prospect of having spent a good amount of money to watch this turkey. A collection of clichs presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner could sort of describe the movie; alas this is barely Bond when serious and surely not the French series, OSS 117 when tongue-in-cheek.
Saif Ali Khan goes globe-trotting as a super-spy out to stop a bevy of diabolical villains with plans of nuclear Armageddon. Kareena Kapoor tags along for the arm candy and to ask and be asked inane questions from time to time. Thrown in a song or two, exotic locations, shootouts, fist-fights, multiple car chases, smart-ass responses and a stubble on Saif that refuses to grow or recede and you have, Agent Vinod.
The plot is crammed in with so many villains and twists that keeping track of the proceedings isnt a problem, but thanks to their repetitive nature keeping your eye lids open surely is. I was bored within an hour and I think I held out much better than the rest of the crowd in the theatre. Was the reason to provide sob-stories to Kareena & Saif an after-thought? The moments like this kill, a sharp vibe the movie has going for it at times and push it down the Bollywood ravine of melodrama.
Id say, they could have done a much better job with Agent Vinod is they stuck to the tongue-in-cheek attitude throughout. As it stands, the movie is colossal yet stylish waste of my time.
