    Verdict - Intriguing sans thrills.

    AiyaaryWatch trailerRelease date : February 16, 2018

Who says the CBFC is a ' caged parrot'.In fact it's independent and bold enough to clear the film under review.Defence matters ,more so scams, are no more a 'holi cow'.They are being reported and critically debated in the media.
Aiyaary deals with the ' murkier ' side of defence equipment and armament purchases. The ' over pricing',lobbying by the ' vested interests, both within and without.Tons of money flow in the supply chain where ' brokers and those close to power' facilitate sale.
A handful of 'rogues in uniform' are the ' villian' of the piece.
A secretive in house intelligence team set up by the army chief unearths their foreign links and the nefarious designs .The 'rogues' are brought to book.
    The characters in the drama?
Col.Abhay Singh( Manoj Bajpayee) remains on the right side of his assignment throughout. He's honest and inspiring .
Major Jai Bakshi( Sidharth Malhotra) is ' mysterious till the end .Is he the ' mole' in the covert operations?
Vikram Gokhale ( the army chief Gen Pradeep Malik) is being ' offered' a bribe to tilt the sale in the side of vested interests.
Who are the traitors? Go see for your self?
Sonia,a kind of a hacker cum love interest ( Rakul Preet Singh ) of the major marks her underplayed but brief decent presence,
Anupam Kher( Tariq Ali) and Naseeruddin Shah( Babu Rao Shastri) are the civilian characters, the later being the ' whistle blower'.
Pooja Chopra( Captain Maya) represents the women in uniform.
The irking side? The length(160m) could have been pruned - scenes of Cairo and Kashmir could have been dropped in entire.Sidharth's profiling as the major leaves much to be desired - rides a bike in the heart of Delhi without a helmet? Is foolish and careless to expose himself to an unknown Sonia . Honey traping is often used to get secret imformation.Sid is a misfit in the assigned role.Subjectively speaking a Rajkummar Rao could have been more effective? The army chief's sounding of the pressures applied on him to the superior civilian authority is just brushed aside? Tea never gets served on the request of the chief?
Effective one liners-' Am not keen to have honest officers'( a rogue officer speaking to a junior);' Kashmir is an industry wherein all kind of vested interests fish( a senior officer suggesting to his junior);' dogs seem to be more faithful than the rogues in uniform'( the whistle blower to a serving officer);' why must the younger generation be accused of the legacy of corruption of yesteryears?( a junior officer to his superior).
All in all Aiyaary is a bold film. One hopes that it's not true to the core,or else? The pace is too slow. It's not n edge of the seat thriller.
Could be viewed as an eye opener though.
