Verdict - If watching two people in love fall apart and come together makes you feel good about your life Akaash Vani is for you. It’s an old school love story with a tinge of reality check.

Within my closed group of friends Pyar ka Punchnama acquired cult status instantly. It was being rewatched, discussed and quoted whenever I met them. I for one couldn't relate much with the film but was impressed enough to wait for what the director makes next.

Akaash (Katik Tiwari) and Vani ( Nushrat Bharucha) meet in college, fall in love, discuss their honeymoon plans, chalk out their future together but the age old parental conflict comes up. Vani's sister elopes on her wedding day leaving her father (Kiran Kumar) shattered, ashamed and heartbroken. For her father's sake she breaks up with Akaash over a phone call “ chaar saal ka relationship ek phone call mein khatam” he asks his friend. Vani gets married to a guy chosen by her father thus begins the real love story of Akaash Vani in which life gives them a second chance to work things out.

Luv Ranjan moves from the almost real, slice of life space of pyar ka punchanama into the old school love story territory. He handles the subject sensitively and with care when it comes to some of the scene construction. One scene at the railway station when Akaash and Vani communicate with each other by crying their heart out is my favorite. Hitesh Sonik's background score plays a big role in creating the right mood for the film.

What worked against the film is that after a point the film is focused only on Vani's life post marriage. For a love story about a couple the man's track is left out abruptly only to conveniently return when required. Also the conflict about children bowing down for their parents wish is relevant in today's times but I don't know how many of the present generation will relate with this thought.

After a long time I got to see some well choreographed songs in a Hindi film. At times, I felt this film is produced by Yash Raj films.

Karthik Tiwari and Nushrat Bharucha take a step forward in terms of their acting and look more groomed and confident post their first film.

Word of mouth - If watching two people in love fall apart and come together makes you feel good about your life Akaash Vani is for you. It's an old school love story with a tinge of reality check.
