Verdict - A lazy dumb 90s potboiler maker would be proud of this one !

    BaazaarWatch trailerRelease date : October 26, 2018

Baazaar is actually 1990s movie set in 2018. Everyone else but the hero is dumb. The hero can walk into any place and pataofy any lady he likes and kick or punch anyone he does not like. He has a spineless and faithful wife. He has a man Friday who is the part parallel part side hero who one day gets bitten by the bug of justice because his relative falls off the gravy train of greed. In short Baazaar is the kind of movie whose story and screenplay is written in around half an hour. Star cast is hired on part goodwill and part their own unemployed statuses.
The movie is about a Stock market shark , who is a gujarati , yes Bollywood is yet to get rid of stereotypes . Just like for long comic characters were lungi wearing south Indians or sardarjis a businessman is still either a Gujarati or a Sindhi. So Shakun Kothari ( Saif Ali Khan) is the shark , he is intelligent and sharp and everyone else around him is equally dumb. For example he ends up purchasing a high amount of shares to become a major equity holder in a company and its owner is not even aware. Inside information is the only way share market makes profit we are told. All financial analysts can right now leave for the north pole or Himalayas.
So Shakun is worshipped by the small town boy Rizwan (played by Rohan Mehta) who starts working with him and one day when Shakun short changes him , Rizwan gets Shakun to his defeat by getting him arrested. You think the movie ends here but to make the movie look realistic the director has Shakun walking out and starting his business again. You just hope they don’t have Baazaar 2 in mind.
The characters are shallow obviously because this is a khichdi screenplay inspired by Hollywood and bollywood movies on finance sector. Radhika Apte gets her first ill defined role after a long time. Chitrangda Singh is yet to get rid of her accent but then I guess Bollywood has never really cared about such trivial issues.
This is also a diabetes patient friendly screenplay, every twenty odd minutes there is a musicless boring song which can be utilized for going to the loo and coming back, in fact the climax has almost two or three such songs which can help you keep taking relieving breaks during the climax too.
Saif Ali Khan is the first threat to Mithun Chakraborty’s record of the highest number of Duds. In a way maybe Saif is ahead of Mithun in the dud race now because the cost of making one Saif dud is equal to about ten duds that came from Ooty Mithun Factory.
You have to be a blind Saif Ali Khan fan to even survive this one till the end. The stock market crashes later in this one , your nerves crash first !
One star. As a compensation for the SEBI guys who have been made to look one tenth competent than an average police constable in this one.
