Bored with typical Bollywood rom-coms and exaggerated family dramas? Baazaar is going to keep you on the edge of your seats and provide you with whole-together another level entertainment.
A stock trader from Allahabad, Rizwan (Rohan Mehra) arrives in Mumbai with high dreams of making it big in the world of stock market and trade. He is determined to work with his hero, Shakun Kothari (Saif Ali Khan), a financial maven. Bluffing his way into the city’s largest trading firm and impressing Shakun with his skills, he manages to get closer to him. But are the dalaal street market and Shakun that easy to crack? The movie with its edgy drama and thrill has a lot to unfold.
What unfolds before is the world of Mumbai with its share and stock markets with its intricate realities. There is a constant thrill and competition in the air of the whole set up making it a very authentic description.
The first half of the film picks up slow and takes a lot of time in building up the whole theme of the film but the pace of second half makes up for it with its twists and gasping moments.
There are quite a few unrealistic elements in the film. Keeping up with moral traditions of Bollywood, one or the other characters of this drama suddenly get a moral awakening which is quite hard to digest. Despite all the talent of Rizwan showcased, it is unbelievable to see a guy making it this big so fast.
Saif Ali Khan is, hands down, the best part about this thrilling crime drama. He is suave, shrewd and everything grey that the movie and the big bad world of stock and markets need. Hailing from Gujarat, he aces his character of Shakun with finesse. Debutante Rohan Mehra is another great part about the film and has made a promising debut with Baazaar. Radhika Apte, is as always well set for her role and doesn’t disappoint.
Overall, the film has a lot to offer to those willing to witness a business crime drama, a rare sight in Bollywood and Saif Ali Khan’s impeccable performance.
