Verdict - Watch only for Adi's portrayal of Shyra!

    BefikreWatch trailerRelease date : December 09, 2016

Modern day love tales are complicated, isn't it? I mean it's not the old times when women were told to repress their sexuality, terms like dating, hookinf, no strings attached were nowhere to be found and people had to stick together no matter what. But then sexual liberation came in and we realised YOLO. And love somehow got complicated.

But one thing is surely good. While in the modern romantic relationship, we always suffer from self doubt of whether forever is even true, we also know that if we stick together in good and bad times, if the other person can still bring a smile on your face after that bad argument or ugly fight, it is definitely meant to be!

And this is exactly what Aditya Chopra expores in the movie Before - the beauty of modern relationship despite all the shortcomings and complications. Yes the very same man who had given us a DDLJ that even today some of us swear by is now talking of homosexuality, lust and no strings attached relationship.

He has a new hero now to portray the new generation- the feisty Ranveer Singh. Singh plays a 'Dilli ka launda' Dharam who has come to Paris to bring smile on the faces of people. Well, he is a stand up comic. But he is more of this hawas ke pujari despo guy who is looking to hookup with people but fail desperately. The only good thing about him is his honesty and that's what attracts the free spirited Shyra towards him!

Really, all throughout the movie you will be left wondering as to why a girl like Shyra would really be attracted to an ass like Dharam. But then while Adi is trying to do away with the stereotypes falls for the opposites attract funda. But what is really impressive is how he has structured his female protagonist in this movie.

Shyra is no damsel in distress. She is no Simran who would go start eyed finding herself beside a young man. She hooks up at her own free will. She is fiercely independent, sexually liberated woman who isn't there to be tamed!

*Spoilers alert She is the perfect foil to the homophobic, judgmental narrow minded Dharam. So while Shyra walks out of the relationship when Dharam calla her the biggest slut of Paris, she rubs it back on his face when she says that it would take him many more dates to match up to her sluttiness. (end) She is the best part of the entire movie. There had been many apprehensions as to whether Vaani would be able to do justice to the role, but man she simply nails it! She is bold, beautiful and seamlessly fits into the shoes of Shyra. And what confidence she exhumes! She steals the show! Ranveer Singh is as Befikre as he can get. He plays the role with his heart. You would actually hate him after seeing the movie. But what comes as the biggest disappointment about the movie is its second half. While in the first half, Aditya Chopra was promising a movie very different from the rest, the second half is as predictable as it can get! It was disappointing to say the least! You will find the movie very disappointing and average if you are looking only at the storyline. But look out for the intricacies of his characterization and at how Adi has portrayed the female character. I will give 2.5 the movie, and a .5 extra just for Vaani's performance and Adi's portrayal of women
