The great Abrar Alvi once said you should know your character. If you know your character, you know your film. Abhinav Kashyap did just that. He created Chulbul Pandey and then, nothing else mattered.
If you go looking for a story in Dabangg you will find that its actually a family drama in the garb of an action/comedy. It delivers everything what it promised in the trailer. After a long time one gets to see a heroes entry seq in a film and once he enters there is no stop to the entertainment. Salman Khan makes OTT look cool. He does everything from a transporter inspired fight sequence to actually becoming Hulk in the climax. Only Salman could have made that LOL sequence look convincing. Abhinavs trump card as a writer is the character of Chulbul Pandey & Salman fits into this character like it was written for him & him only. This Salman is far crazier than the 'Wanted' Salman. The character becomes Abhinavs master weapon throughout the screenplay because in terms of story there is nothing engaging. And his second weapon is his co-writer Dilip Shukla. The names of three films are enough to introduce him in case you have not heard of him - Ghayal,Damini & Andaz Apna Apna. He is back with a bang with this film. I wonder amongst the two who wrote the dialogues but without the dialogues the film would have fallen flat.
The fiery debut by Sonakshi Sinha is one of the highlights of the film. She proves that skin show is not the only way to be sensual. I dont even remember the last time I fell in love with a Hindi film heroine. She has an uncanny resemblance to Reena Roy and looks drop dead gorgeous on screen. With this film Abhinav Kahsyap has Bollywoodified Bhojpuri Cinema with panache.
Final Few Words: I will be going for my second viewing soon but this time in a single screen. I suggest you chuck the comforts of a multiplex seat and rush to a single screen now. Whistle, clap and cheer coz we dont get to do that often in a cinema hall these days.
