Verdict - A film that truly tries to touch a raw nerve and succeeds!

Why Dangal is a different film in the sports genre!

While sports based biopics are not new to Bollywood, there is something that makes Dangal The Film stand out.

It is predictable, yes. Because we all know that Geeta Kumari Phogat did win Gold in the Commonwealth Games. That's exactly what inspired the film. However, the treatment of the story is something that will make you feel for it. Imagine watching a film on cricket where the story is not overshadowed by the hero in the film but makes you understand the nuances of how to decide when to cut, glance, or sweep the ball. How to hold the bat, and how the technicalities of a game matter. You would understand if you respect the spirit of a sport. That is what this film brings out.

Aamir Khan has pulled off something that most of the 'stars' are scared to. He has given the center stage to new talent in the film, instead of looming over them like a patronizing figure. Sanya Malhotra has done a brilliant job. Fatima Sana Sheikh is very convincing as Geeta Phogat. Sakshi Tanwar should do more films, to be honest. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar as young versions of Geeta and Babita will win your heart for sure, and remind you of your own childhood.

But, these are generic things. The devil, however, lies in the details. It is something most of us miss, but this is what truly makes any piece of art stand out. When wrestlers wrestle, their ears get chapped due to all the rubbing on mats and rings. Hence they get a distinct shape and appearance, as compared to normal ears. Nitesh Tiwari has paid attention to even those tiniest details to make the characters look authentic. (Seriously, watch out, you'll notice).

The tiniest of emotions are given center-stage and you can actually feel them. The fact that I felt that I was not watching Aamir, but Mahavir Singh Phogat on screen, is enough for me to consider that watching this film was a good experience. (And I have met Mahavir Singh Phogat in real life, just to clarify that I am not assuming)

Were there few over-the-top scenes? Yes.

Has the director taken cinematic liberty to charge the film emotionally? Yup.

Are there certain scenes which will remind you of other sports-based drama films? Yes.

But despite all this, Dangal is a nice experience to watch. Not because I am saying it, but because it is well-made film. Go watch, you'll not regret.

I will definitely watch again. (Which hardly happens in case of Bollywood films for me, but heck yeah)
