Verdict - A short and breezy entertainer with a few lapses in logic. But then you can't have it all!

Dolly Ki DoliWatch trailerRelease date : January 23, 2015

Dolly ki Doli is a breezy entertainer with the added advantage that it is a short movie. There are many things that could have been better about the movie but given the kind of junk that I am usually subjected to, this was an amusing movie to watch.

Dolly and her gang dupe rich and eligible young men into marriage and then after giving them drugged milk, Dolly and gang decamp with all the jewelry and sometimes even more. Of course, Dolly has a sentimental past and of course she is a very 'pure' girl (none of the husbands get to even touch her on the wedding night) but the story works in most parts. You just wonder about the absence of friends taking selfies at the wedding (if the grooms know FB they know selfies too right?) or the absence of servants in the wealthy houses who need to be given the drugged milk. But if you are a wise and seasoned movie watcher you will cleverly let go of these minor niggling questions and just merrily enjoy your popcorn and movie.

The film could have fleshed out the characters of the gang members a bit more. Here, the dynamics between them is not explored at all. For a gang to run this sort of complex operation, every member must play important parts but the very little chemistry shown between them takes away some of the tension and excitement. If they had ditched the unnecessary songs and used that time instead to give us a couple of plotting and planning scenes we would have been more invested in the characters and the story.

Sonam plays the bride with a nonchalant confidence. Rajkumar Rao as the Jat jilted husband still madly in love with the traitor is a total scream. Varun Sharma makes a good Panju mamma's boy. Archana Puran Singh as the dominating mom is fun. Only Pulkit Samrat is a bit of a letdown.

You have nothing to lose if you decide to watch this movie. Its short, sweet and different from the regular pulp you are fed. This wedding movie is safely gate-crashable.
