Verdict - See it for the good acting of both Riteish and Siddharth in different roles, and Shraddha cute as usual

Ek VillainWatch trailerRelease date : June 27, 2014

This one is a love hate triangle of a different type and involves love, hate, forgiveness, redemption, guilt, hope, trauma and similar issues troubling the human mind. The 3 points of the triangle are

    1. A ruthless brooding intense contract killer with a scarred tormented soul (Siddharth Malhotra) who personifies the new age angry young man of a different type

    2. An energetic frothy terminally ill beautiful young girl who talks too much, cracks PJs, mouths inane philosophy ( darkness can only be removed with light), lives amidst baloons with smileys, moves around with her scrapbook including her bucket list like" to save a life, unite two lovers, feel the falling snow "etc.

    3. A woman hating psychopath with a deadly screwdriver ( Riteish Deshmukh) who repairs telephones for a living and murders females who irritate him with their nagging.

All the above characters have their agenda to follow within the constraints of fate. The script varies from the convincing to the inane and there are inconsistencies but the soulful and melodious music covers up. The visuals are pleasing and the dialogue is okay most of the time. The songs like Galiyan, Banjara, and zaroorat leave a mesmerizing impact.

On the whole Director Mohit Suri has done well in utilizing the plot, characters ,music, dialogue to create a reasonably interesting film which is a worthy successor to Aashiqui 2. An attractive young couple and soulful music have again helped him to make make a good movie. Could it have been better? Yes.

The film is noted for an effective piece of cross casting where our chocolate hero Siddharth does an intense role and Riteish a comedian does a psychopath's role. In terms of acting Riteish walks away with an excellent performance which will probably be rated as his best so far. Siddharth has also done well and is convincing. He embellishes the role with the necessary intensity and does the action well. The shot where he knocks down one gangster after another is impressive. Shraddha has an over the top role at her disposal and carries it off quite well inspite of some mushy lines she has to deliver but her cuteness more than makes up for it. Some may find bits of overacting.

One more movie with melodious music and good acting covering up the other weak aspects.
