Gold is a movie that covers all the sentiments related to Independence, comedy, dirty politics, patriotism, partition and Hockey. The complete movie was a vintage era set-up. Reema Kagti and Rajesh Devraj did an astounding job. The story deals with loads of emotions, of patriotism, faith, team work, love, jealousy, and many more. The movie evolves creating History in 1948 Olympics, exactly after Independence and partition too, by winning Gold in Hockey as India and not British-India.
The entire cast did a phenomenal job. Akshay Kumar brilliantly played a sharp-witted Bengali character, whose hunger for Gold in Olympics as free India brought the whole country together. It also shows the patience and will power of Tapan Das(Akshay Kumar) who believed his gut instincts and approached the federation for the sponsorship and assured that he will get the best team and will bag the gold for sure. Mouni Roy also justified her part as a typical Bengali housewife. The most influencing part to me in the whole movie was the second team which was made after partition and the struggle they have to deal with was commendable. The movie did give us a black spot that dirty politics is all around the world. No matter what dirty politics will make it’s space everywhere. Reema was able to create an impact on the audience. A movie without much violence and foul language can be watch withal the age groups.
The drawback of the movie was that it was a bit lengthy, second half was better and at few places unpredictable too. The music could not put much impact on the movie. A great title track was missing.
Overall, a patriotic fun filled and great movie to watch for.
