Verdict - Hitman: Agent 47 is trash, and not in a fun way.

    Hitman: Agent 47Watch trailerRelease date : September 04, 2015

Much like its title character, the movie 'Hitman: Agent 47' lacks any personality whatsoever. In a premise that's been done to death (Terminator comes to mind) the titular character, who carries a barcode on his neck, is a product of a crazy scientist's attempt to build emotionless killing machine. The real protagonist of the film, Katia comes across a man named John Smith, who convinces her that Agent 47 is out to kill her. Some very stupid plot twists follow, heroes and villains switch roles for no apparent reason, and the slight potential of interesting dramatic conflict is completely wasted by first-timer Aleksander Bach's clumsy direction. The movie looks glossy and stylishly pulpy on the surface and features some competent action choreography by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, but the film keeps resorting to annoying slow-motion and ruins the visceral impact of the action, the only thing in the film that doesn't suck. Bach tries to infuse existentialist weight into the film what with the man-machine conundrum but in a sloppy way, amounting to nothing. The film never takes off, emphasizing too much on wannabe-cool slow-mo shots while never bothering to generate a tangible dramatic core. Luc Besson, whose influence is clearly visible in 'Hitman', made a similarly trashy film tackling similar themes last year. But 'Lucy' was glorious trash, one hell of a ride. Its weaker sibling 'Hitman', though, is a crushing bore.
