Verdict - an interesting idea wasted

I Me Aur MainWatch trailerRelease date : March 01, 2013

Watching I me aur main makes you sad at seeing such an interesting idea get wasted due to such humungous lack of talent and ability. Fleetingly engaging in parts, the best thing about this John Abraham starrer is that it at least doesnt make you want to kill somebody with diusgust.

John plays Ishaan, a self obsessed hunk who is selfish and self centred, not caring for anyone or anybody as long as his needs are met with. His live in girl friend is Chitrangadha, who kicks him out of the house when he refuses to commit, only to realize he has warmed her oven instead. an out of house Ishaan meets Gauri (Prachi) who manages to change him, and make him fall in love. How Ishaan manages to realize his follies as a human, own up to the child he has fathered and be a better man is the crux of this mercifully short film.

There is ample good writing at display in the movie, Devika Bhagat uses familiar cliches to bring out the man-child conflict of the protagonist. What fails her is the absolutely flat direction on display which never seeks to add that little extra effort needed to make the scenes liven up. Then there are the cardboard 2D characters that swing between extreme hamming to absolutle non acting with the alacrity of a pendulum on steroids.

Chitrangadha has managed to make a point of being able to look glam, thing is she is stuck with it now. Her performance, her look, nothing is differenet from anything she has done before int he recent past- Desi Boys, Inkaar or now this. Prachi Desai is meant to be a stylist, yet is the most sadly styled person in this film- her character is bubbly, she does a decent job of it, but never goies beyond the now irritating smile look throughout the film.

The brings us to John as Ishaan- for a role this layered and complex, John is definitely the biggest casting blunder ever, Toy Boy, Hunk without clothes, dimpled chin and thats it. He cannot act to save his life, and some wonderful potential in scenes is squandered cause of his limited arsenal of expressions. He looks most confortable staring at his naked torso in the mirror than actually confessing his mistakes in a drunken stupor.

I me aur main is not a complete wash out if you are ready to not think and be happy with whatever little you get on screen. If you expect someting more than that, this is not for you.
