Verdict - An exciting story told at breakneck speed supported by a superb cast

    KahaaniWatch trailerRelease date : March 09, 2012

Kahaani is one of the most thrilling thrillers I have seen in recent times and easily the best Hindi one. You cant afford to sit back and just watch the story unfold on screen. It engages your mind fully and you have to pay attention if you want to stay with the story. No sneaking at missed calls and sms and FB updates. You throw your phone away deep into your bag, let your tea grow cold and lose yourself in the labyrinth that (V)Bidya Bagchi finds herself in when she comes to Kolkata to look for her missing husband.

This is all you are going to get about the story from me. I dont want to give even a tiny part of it away for fear that you may figure some parts of the puzzle ahead of watching it.

Vidya Balan outdoes herself yet again. She fills the frame each time she appears on screen whether with big boobs in Dirty Picture or a big balloon for a stomach. Her angry glare when talking to an idiot or her soft gaze when talking to a child make all these other body parts irrelevant. All the other actors in the cast are equally outstanding and give this movie its jagged sharp edges as well as its best soft moments. Parambrata Chatterjee as Rana the Inspector who helps her in her quest is soft spoken and determined and just so cute. Nawazuddin Siddique who plays Khan, the IB officer is hard as nails and Saswata Chatterjee as Bob the killer is going to haunt my dreams for sure. Brrrr totally.

Vishal Shekhar have given the movie a deadly score from the crazy chaotic Ami shotti bolchi sung by Usha Uthup for her home town Kolkata in the opening credits to the haunting rock twist of Ekla chalo re sung by Amitabh. This album is for keeps.

There is just one tiny false moment in the start when Vidya does not seem to know about the concept of dak naam in spite of being married to a Bengali. But the rest is perfect. If you ever meet the Director and writer Sujoy Ghosh please give him a huge hug for me.

For now, just go and chew your nails down.
