Verdict - A must for Salman fans, others also will find it entertaining but no questions please
Salman Khan has reached such dizzy heights that it is not possible to see him in any other character but himself. The Prem phase was believable, and so was Radhe and even Chulbul Pandey was acceptable but from Lovely Singh and Tiger onwards he plays himself unabashedly. And why not, since his fans go to see him.
Kick is the ultimate showcase where he plays himself gloriously, his fans will love it,and the others will like it. Not to be left behind ,the critics have grudgingly shown appreciation of the gloss, style, eye catching scenes, high voltage action, and the wide canvas while lamenting the absence of a story line.
People get their kicks from high speed byke stunts, bungee jumping, car racing and sky diving but our hero wants it from his job and has changed 32 jobs in search of a kick. Even his girl friend leaves him for this fixation of his. How he gets his kicks forms the rest of the film.
Nowhere in the promotions has the film been projected as having a good story or anything other than fun It was never a secret that the film would be a collection of skillfully shot action sequences, and attractively choreographed dances with a little bit of story in between not forgetting the trademark punchlines in the dialogue. Add to this a foreign locale and one ultra sophisticated heroine. For the the bonus you have an item number by Nargis Fakhri also..This film was promoted as such and that is what it is.
So I am not looking for a story with credibility and I am not disappointed.
I am looking for some fantastic action scenes, some rocking music and some eye catching songs/ dances and I am not disappointed.
Since executing and collating action/ dance scenes is more a matter of skill and logistics, the thinking director is not required, and the movie can be directed by a producer who has seen plenty of film making and probably ghost directed earlier also. So this actually happens and producer Sajid Nadiadwala directs with the help of a talented choreographer who directs the dance scenes.an action director who directs the action scenes and a major star who probably directs himself.
The movie has flashes of Dhoom 3 and Jab tak hai jaan, and the thin plot is predictable. Salman himself says that " Dil may aata hoon, samajh may nahin"' in an obvious reference to the scenes of the film..
Acting wise Salman is all over the movie and carries it with elan and panache as only he can. Jacqueline is good and is presented glamorously. She emotes well in some scenes. Randeep Hooda as the cop is convincing. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a cranky character and maybe he overdoes it. Saurabh Shukla as the father tries to rake up comedy without success. Nargis Fakhri impresses in a guest role
The movie has three chartbusters which are shot elegantly and will prove to be a big draw. The cinematography and editing are superb with some excellent special effects.
My calculation of 3 stars is as follows
a) One star for Salman for single handedly carrying the film despite a thin plot
b) Half star for song "Jumme ki raat" ( Excellent choreography and picturisation)
c) Half star for song "Yaar na milay" ( Imaginative Angel devil set)
d) Half star for song Hangover ( Passion red set)
e) Half star for pulsating live action scenes and excellent cinematography
