By now, the promos which have been all over the tube may have given the viewers a sense of what Lamhaa is all about. The catch line of the film, The untold story of Kashmir revolves around the ensemble cast trying to depict the agony and the malevolence that the people of post 1989 Kashmir have been subject to. The story is indeed complicated and never been attempted before. With raw bluntness in its approach, Rahul Dholakia, who had earlier directed Parzania, inimitably recaptures the old tell tale of the war strife Indian state on which many power hands (read countries) have their eyes and armies on.
The story revolves around an intelligence officer (played by Sanjay Dutt) who with his drop dead rugged looks is sent to Kashmir to foil a sinister plot that aims at causing turbulence in the upcoming elections. Kunal Kapoor as Aatif has a history of that of a surrendered militant who has his eyes fixed on the the ballot more than the bullet and Aziza played by Bipasha Basu, is a fireband female activist who seeks to get in more workable sector. The common objective for the former and the latter is the same, a safe and sound future of Kashmir that is not constantly disturbed by bomb explosions, curfews and bringing it onto a level where the state gets to a state of normalcy inspite of not everyone being really interested in it.
The romantic part has been shot well and it does not co-relate anywhere with the stereotypical political, chinar trees or Dal lake in its backdrop though it has a good relevance with the entire movie plot. The movie has got a new subject and substantially it has got a lot to offer and it is quite easy to keep up with the movie and not running about haywire trying to reconnect frame by frame.
Veteran actor, Anupam Kher does complete justice to his role of a political party leader and some may even get transported to a time where he gave a rock solid performance in A Wednesday. This Friday, Anupam Kher and the entire ensemble cast of Lamhaa is all set to cast a spell on the serious cinema loving audience with the USP of the topic being Kashmir- A story untold!
