Verdict - A story of darkness and hope !

Love SoniaWatch trailerRelease date : September 14, 2018

Love Sonia is actually the surprise of this week. There are movies which are positioned as intellectual and serious message giving cinema or they are positioned as cinema which shows darkness of our times. The problem with such movies at times is that the director and the scriptwriter become too obsessed with their own seriousness. In the process screenplay and the need to tell a good engrossing story is totally thrown out of the window.
Love Sonia is about how to sisters get trapped in the net of human trafficking and sex trade and then how one sister not just redeems herself but also vows to redeem her sister too with the help of sum well intentioned humans and NGOs.
Love Sonia does not suffer from any such weakness though at times the narrative does slow down. Particularly in the last half hour of the movie. Yet the movie keeps holding your attention as one event after the other keeps hitting you or making you go open mouthed. Like how suddenly one of the sisters is sold off. The moment of brutality right at the interval. The scene where a father just sits down and cries when in a huge dark jungle of sex trade in Mumbai he is not able to find his daughter or the scene where a Cop himself block the rescue of minor girls from darkness of sex trade.
Yet Love Sonia will make you walk out feeling good and maybe at some level in your own mind determined to contribute some good to the society in your own silent way.
The other most notable part of Love Sonia is its performances. Manoj Bajpayi as the slimy brothel owner. Richa Chaddha and Frieda Pinto as the part dark but part trapped women. Rajkumar Rao in his small well defined NGO worker role. However the best performance is from Mrunal Thakur as the very scared and nervous but hugely determined Sonia who will stop at nothing till she gets her sister back.
Love Sonia is a worth watching movie if you like cinema which has some actually content in it.
