Nandita Das’ Manto will definitely touch your soul. Based on the controversial life of Muslim writer Sadat Hasan Manto, this film is one of a kind. Each and every scene is so well thought out and the icing on the cake are the thought provoking lines of Manto. Set in the backdrop of partition, this film also shows the inhuman violence that accompanied with the displacement of millions of people. Manto, being a Muslim too had to leave his beloved city Mumbaia and shifted to Lahore. The story unfolds as Manto is charged for writing his famous short story, ‘Thanda Gosht’. What follows is his battle with the orthodox mindset and with his emotions.
