Matru Ki Bijlee Ka MandolaWatch trailerRelease date : January 11, 2013

The supremely talented Vishal Bhardwaj returns this week with a dark comedy that takes on the age-old plight of the farmers of the country.
While the trailers were intriguing, the final product disappoints, albeit with some subtly hidden gems.

Based in Haryana, this rustic tale plays on some quirky characters. Harry Mandola(Pankaj Kapoor) is a wealthy industrialist who wishes to take over the vast farmlands but alcohol is his kryptonite. His chief man is Matru(Imran Khan - his best performance to date), who has studied Law in the city & wishes to lead a movement one day.His daughter Bijlee(Anushka Sharma) is a rebellious girl with her heart in place.

Throw in a scheming politician(Azmi), her dumb son & some cliched scenarios, highlighting & resolving the farmers needs & you have MKBKM.

The film could have been much more than it ended up being & the first half is just a mish-mash of randomness. It recovers in the 2nd half and the highlight of the film was when Shabana Azmi tells her son to be smarter like "Rahul & Sachin", allowing their parents to be happier politicians.
One among a few dialogues that brought a smile to my face.

Only if the film was set on those pillars and not on pink cows, indoor pools & lots of "pencho's" !
This one is miles away from the masterpieces that VB has crafted & though he puts in a decent attempt, he tries too hard to be quirky, to a point where it just looks senseless at times.
