Verdict - Avoid.
Meri Pyari Bindu is an exercise in "self Indulgence' by the director( Akshay Roy).It doesn't engage the viewer at any point in it's running time.
What's it all about? Abhimanyu Roy( Ayushmann Khurrana),a writer of horror stories ,is dissatisfied by his genre. He shifts to writing a love story. He titles his three year's effort as the title of the movie under review. His story has a span of around fifty years and is written as a retro .Thought, locale, background score, dance numbers keep in changing with the times. The writer puts himself into the shoes of a lover in love with an imaginary woman Bindu( Parineeti Chopra). In the climax he's shown to be a looser.Bindu has been married off to some one else .She's a mother by now.
Why doesn't the movie appeal? The plot is presented in an abstract manner .Glimpses of the period spanned cut no impression with the viewer. No aspect of film making ( script, songs, performance ,drama) touches the heart. All the effort and money spent in it's promotion has gone down the drain.
This viewer would have preferred the fifth year span to be split into two parts. The first half could have been confined to the traditional format of the years gone by and the second half could have been in the present context.
The contrast of both era's could have been put.The principal characters could have been in double roles- parents if the first half and off springs of the second d half.Generational gaps ,conflict of interests ,reconciliation could have been a saleable proposition and contemporary.A case of missed opportunities.
