There was a time when Mahesh Bhatt was the shining light of Vishesh Films as he scripted and directed films for brother Mukesh Bhatt and later wrote films for daughter Pooja Bhatt and even nephew Vikram Bhatt. But all that is long behind him and embedded in the past because these days he seems quite content simply presenting films for the Vishesh Banner. One would have thought he would have loved to go with his shoes on but he seems to have dried up his creative juices so this is the best he has to be content with as he leads a self imposed retired life.
Now it is a well known fact that Vishesh Films has given Bollywood several new faces some of which like Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen,Kangana Ranaut or Mallika Sherawat have stormed the industry while there have been loads who have proved to be one film thunder turned blunders and the list on this side of the fence has been pretty long even if long forgotten. If Murder had relaunched Mallika Sherawat then Murder 2 launches Sulagana Panigrahi it waits to be seen what this film actually does for her considering all the attention has been grabbed by Jacqueline Fernandez with her over the top performance opposite Emran Hashmi.
In fact while other producers make sequels to their run away hits Mukesh Bhatt prefers to confuse his audience by making sequels of his popular films title that have virtually nothing in common except the name be it Raaz or Raaz The Mystery Continues and now it is believed that Raaz 3 is under production or now Murder or Murder 2 both of which were poles apart and the only thing they had in common was the in-house hero Emraan Hashmi.
In Murder 2 Mukesh Bhatt has assigned Mohit Surie with the task of bringing alive Jack the Ripper and relocating him in Goa and thus you have a ferocious call girl hater Dheeraj who is a eunuch by choice having got himself castrated , who has brutally ripped apart over 12 call-girls in as many months and the cops are baffled as they vanish without a trace and their bodies are also never found.
But what is surprising is that the pimps keep sending one escort after another without even bothering to check the callers credentials. Seems Mohit Surie is clueless about how call-girls operate and how suspicious pimps can be till they're satisfied about the credentials of the client. But here a faceless caller demands a fresh call-girl slaughters her and then demands the next and he keeps getting served on a platter.
Emraan Hashmi plays a former cop Arjun Bhagwat who has been dismissed because he has time and again crossed the thin line and has been found mingling with criminals to line his own pockets. Having been dismissed he turns into a full time criminal using his past contacts to make deals materialise. He has a top rung supermodel Priya who happens to Jacqueline Fernandez in an avatar like nothing you've seen of her before on the silver screen. If Mallika Sherawat was the USP of Murder then without any doubt Jackie is the best thing to have possibly happened to Murder 2. On-screen she goes full blast in the torrid sex-scenes and virtually sizzles like most of the heroines do in Vishesh Films especially when they're asked to make love with Emran Hashmi full blast.
So while the entire focus and attention is on Jackie and Emran the second heroine in Murder -2 Sulagana Panigrahi as Reshma the college girl who is forced to enter the call girl trade to pay off her family loans and provide her siblings with a better life but alas she is sent to Dheeraj on her first night in the business and ends up as a bait to lure the mass murderer into the police dragnet but alas the plan back fires and she becomes the next victim on the serial killers wish list.
Even though Murder-2 may not be as big a hit as the original Murder but then seeing the initial opening it took it is bound to be profit raker in the long run even if not a super-duper hit. All said and done this film is bound to take Jacqueline Fernandez places and who knows she may well be the next Mallika Sherawat in Bollywood if only she can manipulate her success like Mallika did to go places!!!
