Verdict - Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi will grip you by your throats and won't stop until you weep.

I don't think there can be any other movie for which writing a review could be this difficult. There are certain movies which simply cannot be reviewed or rated. Neerja straightaway makes it to the top of my "movies to watch before you die" list. The first look posters and the trailer, along with articles about Neerja Bhanot were enough to make heads turn. An initial warning stating that "This movie is not for the weak hearted" would have atleast helped us be mentally prepared. Things are about to change if you are one of those known for not shedding a single tear even in the gravest of situations.

So, what was it about this movie that is making everyone rave. I have two names: 1)Sonam Kapoor and 2)Shabana Azmi.

Sonam Kapoor had to bring a sense of vulnerability in equal portions with that forced courage-in-the-face-of-grave danger. Her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot will haunt you. Her wide smile and alleviating airhostess persona gave the same effect that you usually get during the daytime scenes in a horror movie. This is probably the first time in a thriller, where-in everyone in the theatre felt a strange sense of reassurance whenever a calm and poised actress appeared on screen. Sonam Kapoor radiated the same kind of energy that Neerja Bhanot would have had in that hijack situation. She didn't just breathe life into the character, she transformed herself into Neerja Bhanot. During the scene where she is asked to sing a song, she cries and sings " Mere sapnon ki raani kab aayegi thu" in a quivering voice. Even as I am writing this and recollecting the scene, I am wiping my tears. I silently murmured "Enough, you are hurting our insides", and another person in the theater screamed it out loud. You reach a point while watching the movie, where you will feel like being strangled and pushed into some corner. I heard people gasping for breath, blowing their nose and noticed them wiping their tears. The fact that you already know what is going to happen makes things worse. Sonam pushes her own boundaries in each and every scene and keeps your heartbeat racing. At one point, it almost feels as if you've known her all along. Such is the pervading nature of her acting that you can feel her getting to your head. You start looking at her the way you would look at the women in your lives. That connect that she develops is the reason why this movie is going to work.

Ram Madhvani probably decided to play a game to see who could make the audience weep more, Sonam or Shabana Azmi. I guess it must have ended in a tie, because, after making you weep in their individual appearances, they start performing together in few scenes. Shaabana Azmi as Rama Bhanot, has made sure every mother, or rather every woman in the audience felt the pain of losing their child.

Ram Madhvani could have easily done away with few scenes during the last ten mintues, but no, he hadn't had enough. I felt like my tear glands had dried up. At one stage, I could feel the pain, but couldn't cry anymore.

You have got to enter the cinema hall with a box of tissues. Oh, and by the way, like I had mentioned earlier, even if you think you are stone-hearted and cannot be easily swayed, be warned. You are about to lose that tag as soon as you enter.

    Neerja is a must watch.
