Truely an exceptional film making, Omkara is a movie of prominent calibre, raising the bar of indian cinema & putting itself among the all time greats.
Set in rural UP, its a tragic love story of Dolly(Kareena) and Omkara (Ajay Devgan) who is bahubali, the right hand, of politician Bhaisaab(Naseeruddin). To gain his own political interest, Omkara appoints his deputy Kesu(Vivek) as next bahubali instead of more experienced Langda Tyagi(Saif). To avenge this insult, Langda Tyagi weaves a horrifying tale of revenge, jealousy, apathy, infidelity and murder.
Visionary director Vishal Bhardwaj put up a masterclass effort and turned Shakespeare's Othello, into an absorbing piece of cinema. Deepak Dobriyal makes a fascinatinfg debut but full marks to Saif for portraying the best villanous character of all time. Gulzar's magical lyrics and stellar music by Vishal enhances the overall experience.
Finally we have an indian film with true international appeal. Surely, put it in the list of must see movies before you die.
Rating: 5/5
P.S. Owing to high intimate content and raw rural language, not recommended for childrens.

A dark movie in the Bollywood Cinema reflects the courage of the director Vishal Bhardwaj to foray in this kind of cinema. Brilliant performances driven by a wonderful screenplay, this brings to light the Othello in a perfect Bollywood film.
Shakespeare's Othello turns omkara (Ajay Devgan), the cunning and conniving Iago turns Ishwar 'Langda' Tyagi (Saif Ali Khan) and beautiful Desdemona turns Dolly (Kareena Kapoor). The film starts with Langda stopping the prospective groom of Dolly to tell him that Dolly is kidnapped by Omkara although she elopes with Omkara. Her father cannot stand this. Omkara decides to make Keshav (Vivek Oberoi) as his successor which Langda cannot stand. He plans to revenge, first he involves Keshu in a drunken revel which makes Omkara think about his decision. Then he makes Omkara
suspicious of a relationship between Dolly and Keshu. A chastity belt plays a prop in moving the film forward.
The film is driven by brilliant performances with Saif as the spotlight winner. His UPiya accent, the way he emits expletives, his dialogue delivery his body language were all perfect. The parlance every character uses is awesome, and takes the story forward. Ajay has a suitable role for him, Kareena shows her potential as an actress and she doesn't need a beauty for the same.
Music is great. Bheedi jalaliye is a chartbuster, complete UPiya song. The brilliance of movie is Vishal Bhardwaj's capability of transcending Othello's character on-screen so well. Might not be a good one to watch with the family (due to the abuses exchanged), but truly an interesting cinema without them.
